Why would AMD reduce a part of their market by alienating miners?

A lot of people just do not seem to understand how mining works. They look at how things are now and think they will got the money back. For example RX 480 might take 2.5 Months right now but In June 29th it will be 3-3.5 months. As you mine the keep increasing. Might end up 5-6 months before you pay for the card. That does not include the system, electricity, effort, price of the coin. Basically these people that go out and buy GPUs for mining this late in the game kill it for the gamers and AMD in the end.

It's a long term thing. You can't bank on the turnover NOW lasting longer than now. What you can do is assume that once one coin becomes unprofitable either another existing altcoin or a new altcoin will come into existence as profitable within 3-6 months. I've ROI'd multiple times already.

Because Miners are evil to AMD. Look that they did before. They will take cards away from games. Gamers will buy Nvidia GPUs. Market share goes down. Mining with GPUs goes down and market full of used mining cards people do not want to buy.

I don't know about that, mine are basically set-it-and-forget-it so I'm on older drivers but what I assume is happening is the same as with Furmark where the driver detects the app and reduces clock speeds to save the card from killing itself. Say what you like, but I've been involved in the retail chain and saw a massive increase in the number of AMD RMAs after mining took off.

This.

If they turn off power efficiency in Crimson it should go back to normal.

I still don't understand how they would not want all their cards to sell out. Is that not how money is made? selling all the product? I am not saying you are wrong, just a business noob trying to understand.

Back to waiting for Vega then, where 1080ti or Titan will comfortably stomp it into the ground.

It's been known for weeks that Polaris was gonna give users 980/980ti performance at a very affordable pricepoint. And that was rumored to be around $299. It's exciting they can put out that kind of performance/price. If they can do this with their low end pp, I'm excited for the next set of Fury cards. Hopefully they can drop those prices by $100-$200. Just have to look at the bigger picture here.

Ethereum at the moment. I first started with Bitcoin when it was insanely easy to mine on graphics cards during the first year or so, I had a few HD 5xxx series cards. I sold way too soon though, I came away with around $ 1,000 after ROI but had I waited until coins were around $ 1,000 each... Let's just say I would not have had to work a day in my life, neither would my children.

After that I moved to Litecoin with HD 7xxxx series cards which I'm still running - I did Feathercoin, Darkcoin, Dogecoin, and several others which I just dabbled with until they popped.
Thank you very much for sharing this experience. By your suggestion, I checked up Ethereum. The calculator speculates that Ubuntu OS has a 13% higher performance than Windows 7 X64, is it true?

Cards are made for gamers. If miners buy most of the cards gamers will buy Nvidia GPUs. its fine for the year the cards sell but next year with new GPUs those games that bought Nvidia will buy Nvidia again.
