[AMD] Polaris based RX 480 and "High performance solutions" announced at computex - Page 12

they somehow managed to give much less information about performance than Nvidias event .. there we knew that 1080 is 20-25% faster than 980Ti and that 1070 = Titan X/980TI level

here we know .. what ? they are bringing "VR performance" at a cheaper price and they have a slide which compares 480 to 970/980

and yet I see people here adamantly claiming "between 980 and Fury level power for $199" .. when was that said ? How do you know its for the $199 version ? How do you know its raw performance and not VR only ?

everyone is too blinded by the "(starting from) $199 price-tag" rolleyes.gif

There wasn't any slide that they compared Polaris with 980

there was a leaked one

was that fake ?

if so - then Polaris performance is pretty much unknown outside of "CF in Ashes is a bit higher then 1080"

so then the only thing to be excited about is the cheap price ? it can be $199 for ~970 level for all we know, which is ~ok

Wall Street Journal reported it at 980 power for $200. They got the information from AMD, but I don't think they were suppose to release it considering it never got revealed at Computex.

they never actually said "980 for $200"

also they were talking about VR there and the AMD press release talks about nothing but VR, so that may be in VR only not unlike Pascal VR improvements

P10 CF (and that was seeminlgy using the $249 P10 variant since CF came up to a total of ~$500) just beating 1080 in Ashes means its a bit less than 1080 outside Ashes

and since 980 SLI >= 1080 then 980 SLI > $249 P10 CF .. so 980 > $249 P10 assuming equal scaling

did I do that wrong ? rolleyes.gif

I guess nothing left other than to wait until 29-th June

There's definitely stuff from the press meeting in Macau that hasn't been revealed. Steve Burke mentioned that the 480 would be competing with the 1070. I think that also may be a bit information that wasn't suppose to be revealed.

i will eat my old CRT monitor if true.

i mean there's no way AMD gonna fxxx their whole gpu lineup up with the release of 480 unless they already have Vega in hand.

Well, AMD gave a bit of information at the very end of the stream that hinted at a $300 Polaris card. We know there's a Polaris 10 GPU we haven't seen yet.

(Update: We emailed and confirmed that the 4GB model is $200. The 8GB model is not yet finalized for pricing -- probably $250+).

YOU need to watch the stream before you start posting.

It was matching 1080 at 50% gpu usage. We have zero information about single gpu performance.

Maybe except the 1440p doom run which was around fury performance.
