[AMD] Polaris based RX 480 and "High performance solutions" announced at computex - Page 58

It's AoTS for crying out, who really cares how they compare. If everyone who owns that game went out and bought an AMD graphics card you probably wouldn't even be able to see a bump in a sales chart.

As far as I know, it doesn't work that way. Even in crossfire you - normally - use your GPUs to 100% of the GPU clock (at least according to afterburner info). Your performance is not double - compared to a single GPU - . The performance is usually 70-90 % extra considering one card. That's called scalling. Now....what does that 51% in the video mean is what people are wondering - some assuming - GPU clocks turned down - for both cards.
I seriously doubt that AMD - a bilion dollar company - doesn't have their hands on the competitors' incoming product. Or the other way around. Do you really think AMD bought 1080 FE on the first launch day to check the competitors performance? Do you think that a tech site / reviewer has a 1070 and the AMD doesn't have access to one? Let's say there may be some legal issues with 1070; what's stopping them to compare 1:1 with any of the mainstream nVidia cards ? e.g. 970 , 980 , 980 TI ...etc

I just see compression artifacts. The videos compared are scaled to fit in the presentation video, then the presentation video is scaled and compressed for the stream. If you see AA differences, you are imagining things.

Why is anyone taking about the 51% usage thing? My 270x hardly ever suits at 100% in my games, doesn't mean I'm only getting 1/2 fps. The usage means nothing, ignore it

Well...for me it's pretty clear the benchmark runs at different video settings. Thus the comparison is innacurate.

People seem to disagre pointing to contrast , video compression artifacts , weather effects ...etc. So be it. I don't see anything constructive coming out of this debate.

Do you have Target Framerate enabled?

If you limit your FPS then the card will use lower clocks - assuming it can reach the target with that. Might also be that you have a bottleneck (e.g. VRAM). The only games I see the GPUs not running at 100% is the console ports.

Just means vsync or frame limiting is on like in my case, and even then I don't double my fps by disabling it. Only 2 games Max my card with vsync (that I own) crysis 3 and tomb raider. They should've disabled frame limit but it's not a good arguing point as that doesn't guarantee 2x more fps without

If you listen real close to what Raja said (22 mins on edited video 37:45 on unedited) when describing this segment he referred to the dual 480 card He first said the dual 480 and then called it a dual 480 card not cards as in plural. Is this a Freudian slip? He might be describing a Duo 480 card I still believe there is a 2X 480 chip on a single interposer for less than $500.

The benchmark is not run at different settings, per se...

The explanation for the way terrain is generated in AotS can be found in Oxide's GDC '16 presentation, specifically page 37-46-47
"Generating the stich map" and "Variable density" or in order not to render offscreen maps, they are using some tricks:

Variable density
"Big trick is to allow each tile to have a unique resolution
On the same screen, some tiles may be only 128x128 texels, while some could be 1024x1024
Terrain system will allocate more texel space to regions of terrain which are vertical, and need more space to avoid stretching artifacts"

Object-Space-Lighting-Rev-21.ppt 4345k .ppt file

Now you can stop blaming AMD - they are using identical settings on the benchmark

A bit off-topic, I've heard recently a lot about Bulgaria and I noticed you were from there reading the last few comments, I'd like to go there someday, where would you recommend I stay and why? Sorry for the intrusion, and many thanks for finally putting a nail in the coffin of that budding myth.
