[AMD] Polaris based RX 480 and "High performance solutions" announced at computex - Page 90

AMD say 2017 and your word suddenly trumps that?

How does that work exactly?

There's a reason for that which goes beyond marketing. Historically, AMD has been weak on the mobile / notebook side of the equation and that's an area where there are large volume shipments. The "enthusiast" $250+ market accounted for just 11% of volume back in those days while today it accounts for less than 5%. You don't gain market share in discrete $250+ GPUs. thumb.gif
Or it could be that NVIDIA simply supports their board partners better than AMD does. Through the 390X, Fury, Fury Nano and Fury X launches, board partners barely received enough cards to stock their retail channels let alone send cards out to reviewers. We actually saw that reflected in the limited to non-existent availability of said cards on launch. There's a problem in all of that which goes well beyond "NVIDIA! MARKETING! DERP!" conversation. It all boils down to one simple saying: "its easy to blame failure on others when there's no one else to blame but yourself".
Again and again they have stated Vega is a 2017 product. That could change though.

Why are you concerned with marketing...? Or how you think people perceive it..?

There's still hope for a higher performance Polaris card in 2016 (at least a 480X type card based on the $100-$300 comment) and there's even the possibility of other Polaris chips like a Polaris 12 coming out later as well.

Besides, we all know that whatever Vega turns out to be you will be there Johnny-on-the-spot to crap all over it... rolleyes.gif

Um, things change? Even Sky said that Vega before 2017 was at least a possibility. Besides, the only real confirmation I have seen from AMD was their road map that showed Vega in 2017. That also doesn't mean that we won't see something more from Polaris before December 31st...

Many games are ports from AMD consoles and once the low level APIs take hold on PC and in the minds of game devs for PC it's gonna be simple to run the same game on console and on PC without the need for any changes in the game.

Intel and Nvidia have the best IPC on CPU/GPU, but AMD has other advantages that take time and are long time changes and technological advancements.

It's funny in reviews where Fury stomps 1070 at 4k in some cases applaud.gif Nvidia fast at lower resolutions but the higher the res. the more AMD closes the gap...

RX 480 is in no way a competition for 1070. Maybe for a future 1060, that is more likely but Nvidia might just try to find a gap to fill and put 1060 between some other GPUs and not precisely on level in price.

Welp I was right, Linus already said "I would wait to see how the GTX1060 is" on the wan show when he was talking about the RX480 and how people were excited for it. He couldn't even wait for nvidia to actually announce it.

In fairness, if you can wait it always makes sense to do so just to make as informed of a decision as you can before spending your hard earned money. I won't ever buy a card from either company until I know how the competing card performs (unless I know there is no way they will compete at all as was the case with my Titans)...

Yes, however the GTX1060 isnt even officially announced yet. Nvidia has said it is in the works, but we dont know anything at all. Linus knows far more about the RX480 than we do, which means 1 of 2 things, Either the leaked benchmarks we've seen and mostly believed to be accurate are false and the RX480 is a complete flop. Or linus like (I suspect most large youtuber tech channels) are fairly deep in nvidias pocket.

Just look at how many couldn't even be bothered to make a statement about AMD computex presentation and what they thought. Linus did, but that was because they were contractually obligated to. Its almost as if they are purposely avoiding it.

Its also interesting to point out all these channels are mainly focusing on either the 1070, or AIB 1080 cards at Computex...

And let me be clear, I'm upset about this because I feel its a shady practice as they are someone who is suppose to bring tech news and purchasing advise people that have less expertise with pc components.

Duly noted. It'll be interesting to see what Nvidia does with pricing the 1060 now that AMD has showed their hand.

It would be funny if nVidia totally abandons the low to mid-low segment to AMD like how AMD abandons the High-end segment to nVidia and Intel.

That said, there needs to be competition in all segments.

Given the pricing of the 1070, id say 260-280. you put it slightly ahead of the RX480, but would probably preform a tad better. I dont doubt that nvidias 1060 will be a bit better, but I've always said, given nvidias budget compared to AMD you should expect it.
