VR, as VR, has been alive more than 30 years.
Even in the 80s we have go almost the exact same headset idea setup as we do today. 80s. The first VR headsets from 1960s looks similar to now.

VR headsets have come back to fashion without a single real innovation.
Screens after better, colors are better, sound is better, tracking is better, but none of it is revolutionary, since the technology has evolved so much, and computer power evolved, that it is pretty much a given.

Having to connect your headset to a powerful computer (or use your phone on the headset with its measly performance compared to a dedicated machine), is far from ideal, and yet over so many years, we are still stuck at the same ergonomically design. And we will still be stuck at the same design for the next 20 years unless something actual revolutionary comes out.

So yeah, VR of today, is majorly, just a hype. It is going to take years more for real improvement.

I'm not sure "downplays" is an accurate portrayal of his position.

He very clearly articulated the challenges that need to be addressed, and they are real and valid. What, should we just pretend it won't be hard, because OHMYGURDZ VR?

So, you agree with your CEO?

VR will take off not 'cause of gaming but for other stuff. One is porn.

You can visit Chernobyl without setting foot in a contaminated area. Use VR.

dude, its not about that. It is only about the fact that nvidia wanted to milk vr market with 600-700$ card. Meanwhile AMD just litteraly cut their hose with air while they jumped on deep water. So now they will do anything they can to discredit vr. But infact he is only saying the damn obvious things. Meanwhile AMD is doing all they can to lower the entry lvl price of vr, and by this doing something more then just empty talks on conference. Nvidia is afraid of polaris, and AMD was right that Nvidia should be afraid of it biggrin.gif

Saying how great the 1080 for current VR has nothing to do with it. VR has a long way to go to really use its potential to be closer to real life than just sitting close to your screen.

Are you all over your CEO for over a year old performance as a "new improved thing"? Or a claim for retaking the market with words and zero proof for it?

Then don't present your GPU as VR ready and present them as gaming ready since you aren't worry about VR at all.
