[TFT Central] Asus Prototype - The First 4K 144Hz Monitor with DP 1.3 - Page 11

If you compare 4k at 27'' vs 4k at 40'' , the bigger monitor wins - from my point of view..That low PPI won't give you that much benifit , but you will lose a lof of immersion going from 40'' -> 27''

If you game on 40'' - 70'' range and go back to 20'' gaming you will see that all that the extra PPI , clarity , slightly higher FPS, means basically nothing in comparison with the immersion lost. Of course, it depends on the person, but all my friends that have above 30'' told me that they don't even bother checking specs for lower diagonals.

The monitor is using IPS which is a 10+ year old technology. Meaning the quality of the panel won't be much different than what most people have. If you want a magic unicorn, they should add an OLED to their lineup.

IPS vs OLED is like buying an expensive sport car that looks the same as a 10 year old average car.Sure, the performance is increased, but without the looks ....

Gaming on a larger screen is nice, but, most larger screens are too aggressive on your vision to work well as a main monitor. I tired tried a 43", 40" 4k and couldn't get around them giving me eyestrain and headaches. Moved to this x34 and haven't looked back. I can look at the x34 all day without getting headaches, dizzy, or eye fatigue. Though a big issue with that was the screens I tested all used some form of PWM.

Also from a productivity standpoint very large screens really aren't that useful since much of the screen is outside of your center view. Unless you're pretty far away which by that point you're feeling very unconnected from the screen.

If I were to do a large screen like a 40" again, I'd hang it off to the side or something. Though after getting used to 21:9 gaming I'm no longer interested in anything else.

Some people want the looks, others just want to go fast. Until we get a car that is both fast and looks good, we're stuck with what we've got.

I am in this camp. I saw an early version of LG's OLED HDR 4K TV at B&H in NYC and it was simply jaw dropping. They had a slideshow of professional photographs and some B roll video and it was like staring into a window. I can't even imagine playing 4K games on that. The Witcher 3... wheee.gif

I comfy couch game on a Pioneer Kuro (Plasma) now. The response time sucks for FPS games (of which I only play BF4) but for just about everything else it is ace. The wide screen real estate is great for racing sims. Eventually I may go with a 21:9 monitor for my sim rig, but I would want it 2-3ft from my eyes. I also find playing PC games on a TV to be far more social. If I am playing Rocket League and one of my housemates walks by, chances are they are going to join in. That wouldn't happen if I was in my room. Housemates, families, GF/BF, whatever PC gaming on a couch is good.

I think everyone who has seen an OLED live is blessed and cursed in the same time. Cursed because everything in comparison is "meh". Blessed because you know that one day that thing will sit in your room.

The LG OLED TVs from this year can be used as monitors. This years' releases have decent input lag (around 30-40 ms); it's a bit to much for me, but one of my friends doesn't have a problem using it. If they drop to 10-15 ms, it will make a gap on my credit card and one week vacation from work. biggrin.gif

Yeah... it is like the first time you go to an IMAX. Everything else is just meh. I saw Interstellar at my local theater and though... eh... it was ok. I then saw it at the Washington DC IMAX (which is one of the last full size, true IMAX theaters) and it was a totally different movie.

In terms of input lag, I believe my Kuro (PDP-5020FD) is around 45ms. Considering it is from 2008, that is pretty good. For the vast majority of games it isn't an issue. Actual input device (mouse vs controller vs whatever) input lag and network based lag is far more noticeable IMO. If I play BF4 with a controller... lol... it is like playing basketball with a packed camping backpack on.

I would love to see a 60'', 4K, HDR, OLED, 144Hz, G-Sync/AdaptiveSync TV. Has Nvidia ever said that G-Sync is only possible on monitors/smaller displays? IMO a 4K/60Hz TV would really benefit from G-Sync. Maybe we will see next gen consoles incorporate adaptive refresh rate capability, pushing TV makes to implement it.
