I've basically just listed the specs of that Dell UP3017Q, but i of course also want gsync/freesync in there too. It's going to still be some time before a display with those specs gets down to more affordable prices, till then im gonna hold out with my XB240H rolleyes.gif

Where is the source for 24" 1440p?

Finally..just like others mentioned though, it's sad that such a screen will be limited by it's panel technology..I love my Crossover 1440p 27" IPS OC@95hz..it's bomb, but damn those blacks on IPS..they're really silly (also light bleeding lottery etc..)

Concerning OLED image retention, I've read somewhere that a company found a workaround, so monitors with OLED tech might be a thing in the near future.

And as for PPI vs Size, I guess to each it's own ! and lol @WanWhiteWolf man I thought also why didn't some company did this before !

Personally I'll probably wait for a 5k OLED 32" upsidedwnsmiley.gif

Not sure about someone solving the IR, maybe they did. I know LG solved the color issue with certain color pixels wearing out faster by instead using only white OLED cells and using a color filter over them to get subpixel colors.thumb.gif

The DELL monitor fixed the burn-in issue (image retention) by using some alghorithm that moves pixels for a short duration if the pixel color remains the same. Somewhere around here:

They actually applied the concept with early 21:9 monitors (splitting into 2 screens). But you need about 15 tablets to make your wall ~ 60'' diagonal. But even low bezels may be annoying tho. Assuming you can get HDMI interface on them and a graphics card with 5 DP 1.4 outputs, then you can use 5 DP -> 3xHDMI hubs to drive 15 screens. You will end up with 55 mil pixels (the "marketing 4k" has 8 mil). That's like 12k OLED resolution. Pretty sure your GPUs will spit on you when you propose this setup. tongue.gif

On a side note, we seem to be derailing the new IPS monitor thread into OLEDs. If only the reality would follow ....
lmao man 55k mil pixels that's awesome 12k..mmh maybe in 1-2 gens a crossfire/SLI would do the trick tongue.gif

Also of course price would be a problem with OLED might be why they're anxious to work on that tech for monitors, small market..it's like those awesome LG OLEDs like someone posted, they're great, but I wonder how many they sell.. at this price point ! of course if you add up sales from all the countries it's significant. but on a small scale the LED to OLED sales ratio must be laughable, they really need to "democratise" OLED or we have to get the middle class richer, i'd vote for that 1 thumb.gif lol

Ah yea totally derailing mate.. we need to stop fantasming biggrin.gif

What's the drawback for VA by the way ? maybe more pricey panels so their products would be even more expensive, which probably would reduce their margins since they won't sell much if they sell 27" 4k screens @1800 like someone said !

DisplayPort 1.4 adds support for Display Stream Compression 1.2 (DSC), Forward Error Correction, HDR extension defined in CTA-861.3, the Rec. 2020 color space, and extends the maximum number of inline audio channels to 32.

DSC is a "visually lossless" encoding technique with up to 3:1 compression ratio. Using DSC with HBR3 transmission rates, DisplayPort 1.4 can support 8K UHD (7680×4320) at 60 Hz with 10-bit color and HDR, or 4K UHD (3840×2160) at 120 Hz with 10-bit color and HDR. 4K at 60 Hz with 10-bit color and HDR can be achieved without the need for DSC. On displays which do not support DSC, the maximum limits are unchanged from DisplayPort 1.3 (4K 120 Hz, 5K 60 Hz, 8K 30 Hz)

What is 32 audio channels needed for ?

For gaming maybe,
For other computing tasks, this sounds great.

I can very easily notice difference between 60hz and 144hz on the desktop with cursor drag etc, so a 144hz 4K screen would be a nice addition to the workstation. Although like others have said, i'd probably be looking more at the 32" region than 27" @ 4K

TN has color shift but very fast response time
IPS has glow and thus massive contrast and brightness loss when viewed at certain angles, but average response time and good color
VA has the slowest response time and contrast shift when viewed off angle, but it has the best contrast and black levels on angle and fairly good color. IMO the contrast shift of VA is the least offensive of all major panel tech drawbacks.

Audio is moving away from "left channel", "right channel", "height channel", etc. And moving to total channels with positioning information during calibration. Surround audio will support anywhere from 5-40 channels and audio played over your personal surround system setup is objects based rather than channel assigned. Based on your personal channel layout the audio will know to play at certain volumes on each speaker to achieve its proper object positioning as the director intended that audio source to be placed.
