I think it looks quite nice. I am sure one of the options for the fancy lighting is OFF and it appears that other than the lighting the board is basic back without any crazy looking aluminum bits poking out anywhere.

That's a fair point. I'm sure the heat pipes on that old board were functional but I suspect the advantage of such a wild design was based more in marketing than real world science. In other words, the silly "roller coaster" as it was called was purely for wow factor.

Back in the day, every board was looked like it was designed by the same people that brought us Skittles with all the multicolored expansion slots. The enthusiasts cried out that they not only wanted a board to work well, they wanted it to look cool as well. The manufacturers responded and nowadays even a mediocre board looks much better than the top end boards of yesterday.

I think RGB is an extension of that. I for one welcome RGB with open arms. I don't mind a few lights on my stuff but my OCD gets a little chaffed when I drop an Nvidia card and it's lime green "GEFORCE GTX" onto a board with red LEDs. The ability to unify the colors is really nice.

I can respect those that think RGB, or case lights in general, are silly. In that case, just turn them off. I imagine the Edition 10 on pure aesthetics would be a nice option for this crowd since without its LEDs powered, it's all blacked out.

At least with this RBG stuff the lights are controllable. In the past we were stuck with whatever lights they put on the board.

I understand that completely and can agree with you. My problem is 80% of the products shown at Computex have RGB bling in one form or another. I don't want it, and I don't want it tacked onto the price of a board when it's unnecessary.

Maybe I would turn on the lights on the back for an ambiance effect, but I am with you....turn all of the lights off on the front.
