[PCPER] ROG ASUS RAMPAGE V Edition 10 - Page 24

I've already got a Deluxe II on order with an i7 6850k and gtx 1080 hybrid. Do people know how the Deluxe II and ROG ASUS RAMPAGE V Edition 10 compare in terms of overclocking? I'm hoping to overclock both the GPU and CPU, just not sure if the extra £170 is worth it, especially considering the Deluxe II can do x16/x16/x8 for SLI+pciE m.2 adapter, but the ROG only does x16/x8/x8. A bit torn now...

Pretty much will overclock the same on air or water, RVE 10 will do better on exotic cooling.

Ah right, so not really much point in getting the Rampage unless I have a custom loop? What exactly do you mean by exotic cooling? I'll be using a closed-loop cooler for the CPU, and the hybrid also has its own closed loop cooler.

LN2 or dry ice...

The Edition 10 might have a couple more features, but overall it just looks so nice.

But on AIO cooler, go with the Deluxe II, same overclocks.

Any news about VRM waterblock or monoblock? Is there the same layout as on R5E?

I got confirmation from 8pack who is sponsored by ASUS that the VRMs are indeed the same as on the R5E. Now when i say "same" i mean they are the same Chips/Mosfet/Chokes etc.., they COULD have a different layout in theory since i haven't taken the heatsink off yet to check, but i kinda doubt it. I can't speak for the rest of the board layout though. I would say the chipset is 100% identical for the most part though.

Is it needed to watercool PCH? I have read it consumed only 5w so probably I have to cool only VRM and CPU?

Meh, not in my opinion. Cooling anything other than the CPU and VRM on a mobo is like cooling your RAM or Hard Drive....looks cool, but totally unnecessary. Personally i never do much more than cooling the VRM Mosfets and the CPU itself. Do you already have a CPU waterblock? If so it's definitely cheaper to just cool the CPU and VRM. You can get the R5E VRM Mosfet block on Ebay for ~$35 (they aren't being sold anymore in most stores for some reason) So ~$75 for CPU block + $35 for VRM block = ~$110. Whereas buying the Monoblock which cools the CPU, VRM, Chipset etc..etc.. (everything) will run you $185. And getting the VRM + Chipset set of blocks costs $130 or so; meaning with CPU block you'd be paying over $200.

So overall it's much better to just get like the Supremacy EVO for $75, then get a VRM block used for $35 or so, as you'll be paying TWICE the money to get a monoblock or a set of blocks for everything to be cooled. The Monoblock IS nice for having less flow restriction and thus slightly better CPU etc.. cooling, but i think it's kinda fugly anyway (especially if you have RAM blocks)
