Do gigabyte boards have onboard PLX chips or something that you can rung 16/16 on a 28 lane cpu?

PLX doesn't increase your bandwidth. it only adds connectivity, so 28-lane CPU will continue to have only 28 lane bandwidth
I would rather have 16x/8x/4x and use that 4x for NVMe

It'll allow a 6800k to run 16x in SLI but I believe we wont' have access to U.2. I don't mind since I won't be using it. SSD's and M2 are enough.

maybe you should re-read the spec for that GIGABYTE board?

* When an i7-5820K or i7-6800K CPU is installed, the PCIEX16_2 slot operates at up to x8 mode.

You are correct. I must have been thinking of the GB Designare. Thanks for the correction.

yeah that board has a plx chip, personally i dont like those boards that use them, no real benefit. They add signal latency, screw with timings etc...or so goes my experience with asrock plx.

Shouldn't affect performance too much according to Sin from TweakTown. I'm sure it's a great PLX chip.

I have a thread with more info here if you were interested: http://www.overclock.net/t/1604461/user-review-of-the-gigabyte-x99-phoenix-sli-motherboard/0_50

It's still in the works in terms of BIOS, lighting and software but the features are mostly covered already.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only difference between the Rampage V Edition 10 and the Deluxe II is that the Rampage doesn't have Thunderbolt 3 but comes with a DAC and the Deluxe II comes with TB 3 but no DAC and costs $200 less?

I think it's fair to say that they have discontinued the use or naming of "Black Edition" for motherboards at least for the time being. I would say that their Rampage V Edition 10 is an unofficial Rampage V Black Edition anyway. I feel it would have been better to have more of the Edition 10 features trickle down to other motherboards (and not partially like the Strix) rather than forcing consumers to jump to the highest end model especially if they are concerned about reinforced slots, etc...
