they are individually powered. and yeah the xlr cable i bought is split very close tot he 3.5mm lot of comments say they use it for bookshelf type speakers so i should be good to go

Good to know if i get a desk big enough to fit monitors. Or i could use my Klipsch 5.1 surround as a gaming system biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I just read a dual xlr to 3.5mm will be a unbalanced connection and you will lose -6db since it won't be fully amped. and since each of these speakers has its own power source... i think its best to get one single xlr cable for each... then the issue just becomes... sound card... so two of these https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-XVM-110M-Right-Angle-XLR3M-Microphone/dp/B000K6B2DI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1464854821&sr=1-2&keywords=xlr+to+3.5mm

You do realize that's a single pin stereo to single stereo XLR, how are you planning to use 2 of those with a sound card, most sound cards only have a single 3.5mm stereo. As far as i know the're very few sound cards that have individual stereo channels.

Btw, I've seen your posts in the headphones and earphones club, seems like you've owned some pretty decent headphones, don't you have a proper DAC?

Yes, I have a DAC... here is a pic of it... I guess I can use that... how do i get a balanced connection with xlr cables? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000068OEP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they say here that this one is not balanced because its split. so do i need just use tsr to 3.5mm? https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMP159-Stereo-Breakout-10-Feet/dp/B005HGM1D6/ref=pd_bxgy_23_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=ZDEQ4AGMNGJZWN3P6M01 or single xlr to 3.5mm and just plug http://puu.sh/pdLfk/9a20e781b0.jpg into pre out or line out individually since each speaker is powered individually

I do believe you need 2 of these for the DAC thats def what i would do instead of right to the sound card. I believe you use the preout output but Gilles will tell you correctly.

That's correct, pre-out will allow you to use the volume control on the DAC, this way you can just set and forget the volume on the speakers.

You can still use line out but you'll have to control the volume trough windows that way.

Ive gotta get these babies out of storage, get a decent receiver then try to use hdmi for audio only to the receiver as i love my ultrawide too much now to game on my tv haha. Maybe get a nice DAC for my headphones, not sure yet.
