560mm rad or 480mm

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
I have a caselab SMA8 case arriving tomorrow and while i dont plan to move my entire system over to it yet i was looking around the market for 560mm radiators and ive noticed that there arent as many to choose from compared to the 480mm and fewer fan options as well. For example corsair doesnt seem to make the non-led SP140 fan.

I was planning to have a 480mm on the top part of the case and a 560mm on the bottom. I actually have both 480mm and 560 radiator mounts for the bottom so i can go with either. Which size radiator should i go with? Initially I was hoping to use 560mm for the aesthetics because of the massive case but when i start looking into the market im a little deterred now.

With 140mm Vardar, eLoops, F140MP, etc.....why would Corsair fans even be a thought?

HWL, EK, XSPC, Alphacool all make 560mm rads. While the choices are slightly more limited than 480mm, all of the top names are there.

If you prefer a 560mm, there is absolutely no reason not to go with it.

This will be very informative Then. Info about 560 and 480mm Rad.

I also have built in the SMA8, though not used a Rad bigger than 480mm

I have the 140mm phanteks fans (came with my Enthoo), eLoops and GT's. I have to say, the phantek ones surprised me.

Just as quiet as my eLoops & GT's at the same RPM. Very good fans in my experience.

They would be my choice if i was on a strict budget, but personally - id take the 140mm eLoops if im going 560 rads.

IMO the SMA8 works great for 560's. But whatever works for you. I think there are good choices for 140mm fans, I personally use EK FF4's. They are loud at full power but move tons of air. I still wish the SMA8 came with a 560 top mount but nothing a jigsaw can't fix.

Only thing with the 560 rad is you have less space between it and the motherboard compartment floor if you end up going with passthrough fittings- especially with dual/triple row rads. That aside, 560 all the way.

Good point. I like the way this thread is going.

Can't condone 480 here. SMA8 ==> 560 on bottom. I think it looks better.

Yeah I was gonna go all EKWB but noticed they only had one size 560mm rad whereas the ones that fit 120mm fans have like 3 thickness types and I thought about putting a thicker one down there since water will be warmest coming from my GPU. Though I suppose I shouldn't be picky about it since it will still be a huge cooling upgrade from what I have now plus I don't plan to have more than 2 GPUs since I hardly play anything intensive. I just need to decide on what fans to use. It doesn't have to be Corsair or Noctua though, thinking about giving them a break now that I use a fan controller.
