Your post makes mostly assumptions as you "imply" AMD will never match the 1080gtx. I guess you mean currently, as in the next few months or so? Given 1080gtx just came out and new polaris gpus was already stated not to be high end gpus at least yet.

The 1080 is not a high end GPU either.

People still playing at 1080p(most of us) and is on a tide budget is going to suck up cards like RX 480 for best value with future output display tech. thumb.gif Me myself can't pay more that 250 dollars max for a card. Yes you can by second hand but support will be drop soon and you will sit with old tech also.

So whoever own a 980 Ti...just hold on to it a bit longer...

But 980 owners will benefit from upgrading to a 1070...

However... If you spot a 980 Ti for cheap and under 300 bucks..Id go for it. I know I would since I sold my 980 already lol but only will buy a 980 Ti for 250, if I get lucky.

Witcher 3 - 980Ti OC vs 980 OC is 1.27x, 1080 OC vs 980Ti OC is 1.21x
this is 1.45GHz 980Ti, while mine runs 1510MHz, so the difference would be down to 1.2x

i had GTX 670 that time. and i have seen how 7970 was slower but now its much much faster. there's a reason why i'm mostly salty against nvidia even though i'm an nvidia user and i won't lie i'll still buy nvidia gpu because i don't want to loose 3dvision. when i buy a gpu i buy it because it's faster and has better p/$, 560ti/670 both had that at the time i bought them. but it vanished pretty quickly. it feels like once you give them your money they don't really care. a fake value.

I'm not blind to the fact that AMD has longer better support to their cards, but do we even know if Nvidia can actually continue to boost the cards or is it just assumed they stopped because they dont feel like it?Honestly though 3 years is plenty of life time even if its competitor card is doing better. I made the decision to make the purchase, I'm not going to get salty because I didn't do the research on the product. I have no regrets buying the 780.

Well you called it driver bull, then in your redaction above you said your not blind to it. If AMD can continue to optimize their cards why couldnt Nvidia? They have almost exactly the same amount of employees. Also I never said it killed kepler, only that they stopped releasing optimizations for it. So you jumped to that conclusion on your own.

than i don't see the reason why you asked that. nobody is telling you to get salty. and no matter how much research you do you can't tell 7970 was going to be a better card. because it never happened before, in fact it was opposite. you are happy with your 780, good for you because you think you got enough support ( nothing wrong with that) . but don't expect everyone to just bendower in front of nvidia and find reasons to defend. if a tiny company can pull out more performance and better support than why can't a big company with army of engineers do it. that's why people are salty. you can find alot of people nvidia users like me, even with titans who are kinda fed up with nvidia's practices.

Good way to miss the point. It must be amazing then AMD will never beat the not highend 1080. The debate over whats high end or not is like comparing a brand new gen gpu with the competitions old prevcious gen because they haven't released a newer gen yet. While it may not be technically top end of the pascal heap, it is the top performing card sold at a top end price this very moment. Nvidia themselves advertised it as "the new king".

The point i was talking about was Polaris gpus we know of currently to be released (which they haven't yet) will be low end. Obviously this may change very soon but for now nothing they have revealed is anywhere near the range of 1070/1080 bracket.
