Is GTX970 still a good buy for 1080p? - Page 2

Don't listen to these cats telling you to get a 1070. Complete overkill and a waste of money for 1080p. If you play at 1440p then yes. I would say get that. That card is meant for that at the minimum. The card you want and should wait for @1080p is the 1060. That will be the go to card for 1080p gaming.

I think my GTX 980 Ti at 1400 Mhz is obscene for 1440P TBH. I play at 144 Hz at 1440P too. All of these benchmarks are like oh, only 60 fps in the divison, but with my fps counter up im at 100 fps or so 90% of the time. On overwatch i don't think i ever leave 144 FPS. Mind you 1440p is 72% more pixels, and if you are only at 60 hz on 1080p well, you only need a 4th of the power. An RX480 would kill 1080p for many years to come.

I know guys, I'm not going to get the 1070 anyway, that's too pricey for my demands - only 60FPS at 1080p. At start the 960 seemed fine but seems like it struggles with some games, 970 solves that problem and in almost every new game, without FXAA etc it gets a lot more than 60FPS. That's what I need. I'd love to use FXAA but it sucks FPS like hell.

And like I said, something's fishy about that RX480. GTX980 performance for 200$? Even if it costs 250EUR here which would be reasonable, that's still a way too low price for a card like that. My budget is ~300EUR so right now at the moment only 970 and R9 380X fit in it.

Also I'm looking to buy only new cards, not used ones smile.gif

A quick edit: I think the Gigabyte G1 GTX970 oc'd to 1500MHz would get me those FPS, wouldn't it? Since that's the model I'm looking at.

Nothing fishy at all about the RX480. There was a node shrink. It went from 28NM to 14NM. Much cheaper to produce the chips. AMD is a bit desperate to climb back into the picture with a good price performance card ala the old 4850. It's just new tech. You are looking to buy at the right time thumb.gif

If you're dead set on a 970, I think you should be able to get a second hand 980 for your price range which will help out a good bit, but thats if you're set on the 9xx series. A 970 at any clock should really be able to handle standard games at 1080p just fine.

I know how you feel. I've shipped things overseas before just fine. Just gotta work out a halfway point on the shipping. It should still be profitable for him to buy stuff from the States even with shipping.

That won't work considering import taxes in Serbia frown.gif We're paying 20% regular taxes + 10% import taxes, so that adds almost a third of cards value. And they use catalogues and Google on customs to see the prices, so even if I get it for 100$, I'd pay taxes for 300$ value.

Thank you Serbia and ^#@%! government.

Oh wow, thats harsh. frown.gif I shipped some watercooling components to a guy in Greece and even he didnt have that kind of tax. frown.gif

I assume customs checks all incoming packages too so you couldnt say its something lesser either? Put it in a GTS 450 box and all. tongue.gif
