[WCCF] New Low for Microsoft: Removes the ‘X’ Button from Windows 10 Upgrade Dialog - Page 2

most rollups to 10 end up causing more issues than they solved, especially on systems that are already stable with no issues. Ive seen the typical items that come along with a rollup, drivers, programs no longer activated, 100% had drive activity usually from the users already having an outdated java(yes, not all versions are compatible with10), but mostly video driver problems as the OS forces the M$ video driver over the current one, reboots in the middle of the work day despite defer updates selected.

All I know, nothing is truely free and when the salesman (M$) is shoving their product down your throat, you should beware. I have zero intention to move my current rig to 10, 10 will most likely be on my new rig mostly since it is claimed win 7/8 will not support the new hardware.

and btw, I NEVER need a reason to not want something when I don't want it, my answer will always be "because I said so"

these tactics are like the dealership coming to your house, hauling off your car you paid off that has no issues other than maintenance and placing a new crappy version with limited features in it's place and sending you the bill later, even though, you didn't ask for it

While I think that win10 is great and theres absolutely NO reason for people to stay on 7, this shouldnt happen. Shame, shame, MS
post #13 of 204
I've seen the win10 update break more systems then it fixed. For instance:

father's laptop: HP with ATI 4000 series GPU. ATI driver throws a DLL error message whenever the laptop is unplugged. ATI driver does not like switching to low power mode. Unfixable in windows 10, as the bug was never patched.

Father's wife: same deal. Similar aged model with same problem.

Mother's laptop: windows 10 updated, broke during the update, and hosed windows 7 trying to roll back said update. User data was wiped in the process.

Sister's laptop: Same deal

Step fathers laptop: Windows 10 invalidated his license, GPU driver crashes every ~15 minutes.

Grandmother's laptop: windows 10 is incompatible with her network card, windows keeps trying to auto update to 10. She saw the window in this article last night....

Needless to say, I've had it with MS. I've spent hours trying to get these aging machines to run well with win10, to no avail. I've already upgraded the memory in all of these machines and popped SSDs into them, so there is no reason to replace them for another 5 years or so (and even them, I told them all to buy business machines, so spare parts are super easy to come by and install). Since MS keeps trying to update them, I decided to roll some of them onto linux. Did my mother's machine and my stepfathers machine 6 months ago, both working fine ever since. Might be moving my father's laptop to mint this weekend, and grandmother's laptop in a couple weeks. Father's wife wont touch linux yet, and my sister is stubbornly refusing to try GIMP instead of pirated Photoshop for her artwork, but I intend to convert them both eventually.

My own desktop happily dual boots mint and windows, but mint has seen the most use lately. If I can get VT-D working properly, I'll resort windows to a VM and only have Linux installed natively. I'm hoping that more people will leave MS after this whole fiasco, because no matter how good windows 10 is, this behavior on their part is inexcusable. MS should not be making the windows 10 installer worse then malware installers.

I can think of one reason to do it. In a month or so when the free upgrades are gone, people are going to start complaining they didn't get a free upgrade. So Microsoft is probably doing this so they can give those people the big middle finger and say "You pressed 'No'"

I also agree that there's no reason to stay on Windows 7 (aka Vista with a new front end) Its the same as the masses staying on XP when 7 came out because they were scared of change.

I don't know who is more annoying, Microsoft with their upgrade, or the 12312302934820934702 damn daily threads and comments of people complaining about muh Windows.

God dammit, we know already you don't want to upgrade, but it's been a year.

So, we should just upgrade because M$py are desperately trying to force us to.

I know, right? Microsoft's constant nagging should have stopped down by now.

No, you should upgrade because its a better OS. they are already spying on you along with everyone else on the net. So im not sure how that is a complaint.

Good reasoning. Can I spy on you as well?

This is just scratching the surface. You forget about device compatibility, license restrictions (you get an OEM license with the free upgrade), general ugliness and risk of failure when doing in-place upgrades.
Not to mention everyone wants the features it offers. I am fine with my license (and so is Liranan it seems), mine and his OS will be in mainstream support until 2018, and extended for several more years.

Thank you, but I give the middle finger to your suggestion. smile.gif
