fx 8320 with 1866mhz ram

Thread Starter
so im a little confused on this, i have the fx 8320 4.3ghz oc @ 1.38vcore, Asus m5a99x evo r2.0, and 2x8gb 1866mhz ram, will i be able to run the ram at 1866z, i have it had on auto and the memory is at 1333mhz @ 1.5V Dram. i read on another forum that the fx 8320 will only support 1 dimm per channel @ 1866mhz or 2 dimm per channel @ 1600mhz, is this true, can i only run @1600mhz? i prob could of saved a couple bucks on 1600mhz if it is

That's complete nonsense. Officially, the FX supports 2 RAM sticks at 1866 or 4 sticks at 1600. Unofficially, overclockers here have run higher frequencies.

thanks, i figured it could do it, I'm moving mine up to 1866mhz since its what i paid for lol, i just wanted to confirm before i test for stability after with my oc, i moved it up to 1600mhz earlier and i froze during a custom blend using 75% of my ram in prime95 and raise my CPU/NB voltage from 1.25 to 1.256v seemed to do the trick.

question, do i have to mess with the timings, since I'm setting the speed to stated speed, the timings in the bios are 11-11-11-28-1T, where the gskill website says it should be 10-11-10-30-2N

Theoretically, you should just load the XMP profile in BIOS and the timings should be set according to what Gskill says without any further effort on your part. If the XMP profile fails to set the timings that your sticks should have, you could then attempt manual setting. You can check the timings with CPU-Z from inside Windows. Also, when they sell 1.5v RAM, they mean 1.5v-1.575v. Kingston is very open about it in spec sheets. I myself have a Corsair kit 1.5v that isn't stable at 1.5 and i run at 1.6v just to be safe.

If you still have trouble, i advice you to ask for tips in the Vishera Onwers club in the AMD CPU section of the forum. They know more than me.

My 8310 runs at 4.4 GHz 24/7 up to 4.6 stable with 2133 MHz dual channel ram.
