Subj: "Benchmarks spotted"

Doesn't this belong to the rumour section?

right now Gk110 and variants is still the top dog for DP on the NVidia side.

1080 has under 300 gflops of Dp compute beating a K80 with 1500 gflop in DP compute???

single precision or half precision used.

I know...

I am assuming P100 runs around the same clock for DP/SP like the k20/k20x.

However for all the freak-peeps out there who think the P100 was ever gonna be a good graphics card and have ever argued with me there's this chart:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Showing you precisely why you DON'T want a P100 graphics card. This chart best represents the graphical power of these chips.

If you look at the chart you'll see the K40 and 1/2-K80 are the same (literally) and the M40 is the tesla of the Titan-X.

When they build it the GP102 will be a "designed for graphics output" version with a higher baseclock, etc.

Keep in mind that AMBER only runs on nVidia hardware and Xeon Phi and CPU modes. They're not showing Xeon Phi in that chart, it's just showing nVidia hardware in comparison to the CPU.

I see what you are saying. My problem with the provided setup is the complete lack of scaling for multiGPU. Whick looks like a cup half full. IE no drivers to take advantage of the hardware including NVLink, just the Cuda library being executed at a faster speed than Maxwell.

Which brings up everyone's early analysis that Pascal in what we've seen to date looks to be "Die Shrink clock speed only" when compared to Maxwell. I keep wondering if Nvidia could have saved the trouble and just die shrunk Maxwell and called it a day. I bet performance would no be different for Gamers than we see now with 1070 and 1080.

Yeah I get it that they are investing in Automotive tech/ Deep Learning etc. I'm sure they'd love their tech to be used in the "rumored" Apple Car. :h34r2::rolleyes::D

I would assume that to be a bit of a stretch..

but again i can't remember the proper ratio from Kepler to pascal in terms of DP cores to total cores.

but i would assume they clock down slightly or don't boost. not sure in pascal as we don't have much information about an utterly unobtanium card for 99% of the global population
