Interview: Galaxy on overclocking the GTX 1080 HoF to 2.5 GHz

Galaxy is the first to overclock the GTX 1080 with liquid nitrogen and reaches 2.5 GHz GPU frequency. We take a chat with overclocker MAD about the overclocking potential of the GTX 1080th

Galaxy plans that are already in basic design to deliver the most powerful Geforce GTX 1080grafikkortet market. At Computex show now that, despite this opens up good prutmåner on the frequencies when it comes to extreme overclocking. During Computex succeeded Galaxy in its stand to reach a GPU frequency of 2500 megahertz using liquid nitrogen, and so when beating extreme overclocked Geforce GTX Titan X and GTX 980 Ti on the fingers. With a significantly overclocked 10-core Core i7-6950X CPU reached MAD really impressive results in all 3DMark suites. It was not enough to beat the 980 Ti or Titanium X overclocked to over 2.2 gigahertz.

Galaxy consultant and tame overclocker MAD was responsible for overclocking feat engines and NordicHardware took the opportunity to talk in more detail about the potential of Nvidia's new GPU. Among other things, dealt with the fact that not even the partners made in 1080 GTX card yet can compromise on extreme overclocked GeForce GTX 980 Ti cards and hopefully we can see frequencies up to 3 GHz when manufacturers and overclockers across the boards current restrictions. There MAD otherwise not see the lonely 8-pin connector on Founder's Edition as a problem for traditional overclockers.

- No, I would not worry about it, MAD answer the question of whether users should be concerned about the Founder's Edition has limited power supply.

After a closer insight into extremöverklockares view on Geforce Pascal there is no doubt that even Nvidia's latest GPU architecture is a very capable overclockers. However, it will probably take some time before the partners and enthusiasts will really be able to push Nvidia silicon to its ultimate limits.

however this has nothing to do w/TIN - the gpu/pcb hard modder.

nothing about pigs flying. posting just a screen shot is suspect; no link no validation, nothing; anyone believing just that is gullible.

since you actually had wrong information in your OP, maybe don't (fail) attempt at rubbing anything in. wink.gif

and your welcome for finding the correct for you. thumb.gif

Randomdude with a randomthought.

This is not a hard accomplishment though. Quad Sli tends to be a buggy nightmare that only offers a slight bump in performance if you're lucky, and a decrease in performance when your not lucky.

So are custom bios going to make any difference to 1080? eg. is it worth me waiting for a custom card with more phases and power etc? Or should I just get a reference card now? I will regret it if they release bios tweaks that let you run higher speeds etc. but then also I will regret getting a better card, if it turns out it makes zero difference and any bios etc the cards still max out at 2-2.1Ghz... is there any more info at all on this?

Something like 2.2-2.3ghz would make the 1080 a much better upgrade from 980ti, if you could edit bios and increase power limit by another 10% or something, that would probably allow higher clocks, as with the 980ti the number 1 problem was the power limit.

But I have also read that these cards are limited to 1.25v and 120% power and there is nothing you can do about it, but has anyone actually tried modding bios or can confirm if there is any chance of that happening?
