[Gematsu] Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age announced for PS4 - Page 7

I really, really need to ask one thing about this.

Why they don't fix the protagonists???

XII makes obvious that Vaan and Penelo were "shoehorned" in the game due to executive meddling, and that the actual "canon" party was supposed to be Basch, Ashe and Balthier.

Why, why they kept Vaan as main protagonist? :/

Rumor has it that it was done to please the Japanese audience, they are obsessed with age. It's kinda funny actually. In a western game Basch would be in his 40s or even 50s, but he's 30 something in FF XII. That's old by Japanese standards. Remember FF VIII plot pretty much involve high school kids on military missions....

What do you base any of this on?

Seriously? You never watched any anime? Have you never seen the modern character design in media? The fashion and the visual of J-Rock bands? Don't you remember Nier and its two versions, the one made for most Japanese gamers, in Square's own words, had a younger dude who saved his sister instead of his daughter.

Keep in mind it's based on International Zodiac Job System, which was absolutely terrible compared to the standard version of FFXII (the one we got). I've tried both. There was a translation patch for IZJS.

Have fun picking a job class with an extremely limited license grid that can't be changed for the entire game, and if you pick the wrong jobs then 90% of the gear is unusable.

Meanwhile I'll skip this and play games by good JRPG developers, like Level 5, imageepoch, Monolith Soft, Idea Factory, Gust, Sting and so on (because they aren't afraid to make classic style RPGs with turn-based systems.)

The last FF that was any good was IX.

I enjoyed it. A lot of people enjoyed it. Can't be that terrible.

In the original most weapons and armor are useless. Everyone had everything and there was no reason to bother with anything other than swords and heavy armor. IZJS completely changes that. It forces you to use other stuff and make that stuff useful. Actually dedicating one or two chars for mages now make sense.

Sure, there's the potential to ruin things, such is the case with every game with jobs system, and that's how it was since FF I. As long as you play safe and at least choose one Warrior, a White Mage and a Black Mage, you're covered throughout most of the game.

Yep, they sure love the idea of highschoolers saving the world.

Think the majority of their mangas are like that. Sometimes super rare to come across one with older characters.

This was the first FF that the combat system ruined it for me and the beginning of the AI controlled party members that the series went to that I hate. X-2 in general was horrible but it's combat system was decent. I never finished ffxii and have tried several times to go back and play it again, maybe if this looks good enough I'll try it one more time. I tried the fxv demo on ps4 and it was awful. They should have kept the Kingdom Hearts fighting system in Kingdom hearts.
