[Gematsu] Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age announced for PS4 - Page 9

Yep, the old 2D games are darn solid games. Still fun to play to this day.

Though, if you looking for turn base and medieval go grab a copy of one of the Fire Emblem games. Darn solid games and the characters are interesting. I just finally beat Fire Emblem: Conquest, so satisfying when you barely beat a last boss with only two characters alive. Need to go back and beat the last boss in Fire Emblem: Awakening (pain in the rear since enemies keep re spawning).

Just wish the makers of the FE series do a new Advance Wars game too.

Though, I'm with you on being leery of the up coming FFXV, I think I will wait for reviews because FFXIII really turned me off from the series especially the direction the combat system went (game could more or less play itself on auto).

You actually had to prepare for the long dungeons in FF1, stock up on healing items, conserve magic for the boss, and so on. It was more about battling, gaining levels, collecting treasure, and seeing how far you could make it in a dungeon without dying, or having to warp out to restore magic...

FF4 (aka 2) was the first one with a real story with characters. It worked because the characters had depth and weren't totally one dimensional. It has a legendary cast of characters, Cecil, Kain, Rydia, Edge, Rosa and so on. You could say the same thing about 6 that you mentioned, with Terra, Edgar, Sabin, Locke, Celes and so on. All of these characters were unique and had well defined personalities.

The reason those games were so good is that they couldn't get by on graphics/cutscenes alone, hell it wasn't even until FF7 that they had prerendered cutscenes. That's a good chunk of the classic series that didn't have them. They couldn't have fancy graphics, so instead they had great stories, characters, and gameplay. It's dumb because, you look at FF8 or FF9 which had some of the most amazing prerendered sequences in any game ever, up to that point. Just phenomenal graphics. Cost millions of dollars to make. You look at it now and it looks like crap. There's a reason the 16-bit FFs are so highly regarded to this day, whereas 8 and 9 regularly are at the bottom of FF ranking lists. (As much as I loved 9).

Now they make the games for graphics first, everything else second. They can't even make a battle system that's competent and allows you to control your whole team at once. So, my hopes for FF15 are not high unless they make the battle system much better than the trailers show. There was an interview with the director where he basically said "if the battles are basically mashing one button, I'm okay with that." (No joke, look it up.) On top of the battles, they really need some unique characters (e.g. they probably need Yoshi taka Amano to do character design again). They need a better script writer, FF6 had a great story and it had none of this "fal'Cie' "Focus" 'Pulse Fal'cie" crap. Stop making up words and obscuring the plot with buzzwords and write a coherent story.

Sorry, but imo the only thing that would redeem or save Final Fantasy in my book is a return to turn-based battles in a medieval game world with design by Amano. Unfortunately, that will never happen, but that does basically describe Bravely Default and Bravely Second... hey.. my brother let me borrow his copy of Bravely Default... he really says I should play it. Maybe I'll do that and just forget Final Fantasy.

falsie crap of ff13 is one of the worst thing i have seen in my life of gaming

it is so stupid i cant stand it

i finished ff13 but my IQ is 0 after that

Indeed, it's a long read but I'd recommend this article: http://socksmakepeoplesexy.net/index.php?a=ff13

It's part of a whole series on what made Final Fantasy great originally, and what it has become now.

I could be very wrong, and they could make a truly great game with FF15, but considering I haven't liked any FF game since FF9 (16 years ago... jeez) I'm not holding my breath.

I have had to look at other developers instead of Squeenix, some of them are Mistwalker, Gust, Sting, Nippon Ichi, Level 5, Idea Factory, Monolith Soft, imageepoch and a few others.

I believe my brother got one of the Fire Emblem games for 3DS, he would probably let me borrow it... I'm not a big fan of the series mainly because PC permadeath isn't my thing. I know it's optional in the newer games. I do like turn based, and I have Disgaea 4 for PS3 and need to play it.

I'd recommend to anyone with a PSP or willing to emulate, 7th Dragon 2020 has a translation patch now. It has music by Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage) and the producer/designer is Rieko Kodama (the original Phantasy Star SMS as well as Skies of Arcadia). It's turn based, has heavy customization and is quite good.

Yep, the new ones even have three options now on the death of characters in battle. The older ones kind of turn me off on the permadeath, but I love the new ones because they give the choice if I want it or not.

My younger brother let me barrow bravely default as well, if i like it I'll buy the second but currently my sons 3ds is being repaird by nintendo.

I will stand behind anything final fantasy too this day I've played and almost finished everything 1-14 ( 11 i barely touched cause it was online but I played 14 a while) I'll be getting ff15 probably on day one. I dont expect much but I might as well keep playing until Square gives me a reason to stop believing in the series.

FF6 remake is the last FF I'm begging for a remake of. I'm really hoping that comes one day

LOL my brother's 3DS is being repaired by Nintendo too, he dropped it maybe 2 feet, it fell out of his pocket when he was getting out of the car and he's short. The top screen went black on one half of it, making it unusable. I borrowed the game from him. Kinda similar circumstances.

FF6 remake would be absolutely amazing, high budget next-gen, with Amano doing the design. It'll never happen.

Sorry but I vote with my wallet and the last FF game I bought was FF9. I recall back then that in magazines, on the net etc. it was very well known that FF9 would be a tribute to the classic series, and Square said the games after it would be vastly different. Well, I guess they were damn right, because the games ARE different and for me, not in a good way. They're garbage. If other people like them, that's fine, but FF to me is really epitomized by the first 6 games.

Yeah idk if my son dropped it or water damaged it but the screen is blank and it either doesn't turn on or when it does it shuts off and says there is an error. Nintendo said that it shipped it back so I should get it soon. Its in warrenty but they charged my credit card 106 dollars? I never agreed to that... Still Idk if they fixed it or what I guess I'll find out soon.

There is enough RPGs to keep me busy

Star ocean ----> FF15
> Final fantasy world
> FF 12 remaster
> FF7 remake
> and then eventually kingdom hearts 3

If they charged you $100 and said it's in warranty, something is wrong.

My brother's 3DS was out of warranty and the charge to have it repaired was also $100 for us.

So, they charged you the same fee they would if it wasn't in warranty.

I'd call them and ask why you were charged if it's in warranty.

Good luck.
