Idk, I lift and reposition alot but I also always used the high LOD setting on the 3310 mice I owned. Perhaps this alleviates it to some degree?

I do remember my 3090 Zowie's doing something like that from time to time.

Yes the old zowie's had many malfunction problems, tons of people with 400 dpi would constantly have the mouse shutoff.. but with 3310 it doesn't occur unless you force it like they do in that video. biggrin.gif

"Drift" is a completely different problem. Drift is the gradual movement of the "center" of tracking as you move the mouse. On a mouse with zero drift, keeping the mouse perfectly straight and moving the mouse anywhere on the mousepad and then putting it back where it started will result in having net zero movement. Jitter and speed-related-accuracy-variance both cause drift. All mice have drift and after moving them for sufficient time will not be centered on the original position even if you kept the mouse perfectly straight the whole way through.

"Spinning out" is when the cursor jolts off at an angle and causes spinning looking up or down when you're in FPSs. The "tracking initiation speed" problem can cause that kind of malfunction but it sometimes causes other kinds of malfunction like stopping tracking or weird warping behavior.

Then what do you call it when IT DOESNT HAPPEN IN A FPS?
"jacking off"?
Drunk cursor?
Clown cursor?

its' CURSOR DRIFT.
I would also accept "randomly jittering cursor."
Do you even know what the meaning of the word DRIFT is?
God, I'm done with this thread. People are so goddamned anal here and so INSISTING On being right......screw this.

Yeah, I know what drift means. Drift is when a meter's values change over time even if they're measuring the same physical state. Gyro drift, thermometer drift, etc. Mice are position sensors. Mice have position drift. Position drift happens to mice because they sense position by sensing relative movement, and errors on relative movements necessarily cause drift on the absolute path they represent.

Malfunctions are not drift. Drift is an existing term used to describe a particular type of meter flaw. Taking something unrelated that already has a name and saying that it must be called drift is wrong on multiple levels. It doesn't matter if someone misused the word drift before and got other people to pick up on it, it's still wrong.

This!

The sensors in question are in use for years - if this would be a serious issue affecting users actually on a regular basis it would have been a major topic since years on forums like this one.
