[YT] An overview of Ubisofts downgraded games - Page 3

I think they know their footage is b.s. when they need a $5000 PC to run in real-time, and honestly expect to get the game running on a $300 console.

You also have to watch-out for terms like:

"in-engine" That means it was rendered offline at ANY fps.

or

"rendered on the PS4/X1" again that could mean it was rendered at 1 frame an hour for all we know.

tl;dr don't expect the final games to look like these E3 videos.

I do care. Most car companies make the design but make it for the upgraded version if the car. I remember they had shown the new era Mustangs in Auto Show Ny back in 2005 but it was a high end design. Regular 2005 Mustangs did not look as great as it but it was possible to buy the good looking Mustang for a bigger price point.

Imagine this.

I am telling you that I am building a skyscrapper and trying to sell you an apartment in it. And this is the design

but 2-3 years later I am telling you that it was a predesign and the final product is this

The thing is when someone watches the E3 footage of The Division chances are he will love the graphics and pre order the game. Than the game comes out and graphics are nowhere near that footage no matter how powerful his computer is.... AND the company doing this can get away with stupid stuff like `pre alpha footage` etc... 100% false advertisement.

You can not ask a person not to pre order a game. He or she can do whatever they want but developers can not get away with these kind of downgrades. They must not.

Concept cars never "come out".

What you see is what you get. Those 5 or 6 production models that get shown off at conventions and press releases before eventually being sold to collectors are all that the company ever intended producing. And every concept car model makes a profit for the company.

Oh, and last I checked I couldn't download millions of identical copies of a concept car from a cloud of servers for pennies each, sooo....

Yeah, let's ram this car analogy into the ground and give it a good cornholing, shall we?

Correct. Concept cars aren't meant to even be sold.

These videos are saying, "hey look at our new game. Buy this game in a few months."

And the vertical slice excuse is B.S. These games are already funded and are already coming out. There is no need for a vertical slice to be so much beyond the scope of the final game... except to mislead people.

If you pre-order (based on pre-release screens), you get what you deserve. I haven't pre-ordered a game in years because all studios have broken my trust at this point. If more people waited for the full reviews from trusted reviewers this would not be as much a problem - well that and if they actually built a console that competes with a desktop including upgradable components.

I dont agree. A person has the right to preorder based on a product shown.

I also never preorder a game thats a different story but I never blame pre orderers. A products is shown to them and they are making decisions based on that. They are making a dedication to the company and buying the game early on BUT the company ends up having their way with those people.

Game could end up being boring or blant these are all different stories but having misleading graphical examples and footages is something else.

Game developers are geting away with coning people. Not just Ubisoft but most of them.

Edit: I said I never preorder a game but bought the Divison a day before the release of the game because of a discount on season pass. I never cared about the grpahical downgrade myself but although game has its moments it became repetetive for me. It even looks great on my 4K screen too, but when seeing the E3 footage, it is just too sad.

I sometimes wonder if Sony or MS are telling the game developers to cut the PC graphics on purpose. I remember reading something like that a year back.

Other than that the game developer can make the game at lower standards to run stable on console but should still up their game for PC. And lately PC sale numbers are growing even for Ubisoft.

Yep, aside from creating thousands of builds for different hardware configs (which will never happen) graphics scaling takes a realtime toll on games. Gotta target the primary consumer anway, which isn't even using a PS4-range PC.

It's not an advertisement though. I like to use concept cars as an analogy. When was the last time a popular model turned out exactly like it's revealed concept?

pre-release alpha / beta game version is not meant to be sold either.

I think it is advertisement. When you show a footage of your game you are starting to advertise for it. You are at the end of the day starting your game to be sold as pre order as well. When you have pre orders of a game and a footage of the game than that footage is advertisement. ALL E3 game footages are a form of advertisements. An advertisement does not have to be on a billboard or on a magazine cover.

Most cars usually come out the way it is meant to be or designed. At least as an upped model while the standard entry level model could look less attractive. However at the end of the day you usually can find the advertised car as a superior model with some paid extras in a dealer.

Edit: In this video's case those graphics are not found anywhere. They are misleading console players the most with these footages. Shame really.
