Extending encrypted linux VM

Thread Starter
Hello forum,

So I've got an issue with my kali VM. This was only meant for testing however the project has grown quite large and the default 30GB drive is not cutting it.

There are loads of custom things and data on this drive or I would just do a new clean install.

The drive was FDE (encrypted) on install of the drive.

Any idea how to migrate everything off to a new drive with more space ? or decrypt the drive so I can extend the partition.

its currently running on VMware Workstation.

Any ideas ?

Kind regards

Is it still bootable? If so I would tar it off thru a pipe to an external file with ssh

# tar zcvf - /wwwdata | ssh root@mysrv "cat > /backup/wwwdata.tar.gz"

Or,
Code:
rsync -aAXPhz --exclude={"/dev/*","/proc/*","/sys/*","/tmp/*","/run/*","/mnt/*","/media/*","/lost+found"} -e "ssh <any_ssh_options>" /* <remote_user>@<remote_host>:<path_for_backup>

Yeah it still bootable Im using using it for my lab machine just only has a few gig left on it.

OWASP ZAP projects can get quite large so putting as much on the host via shared network folders as possible.
