Thread Starter
hello,

so I got myself a Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming the one exactly in the link below:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5915#kf

why cant I raise the power limit more than 108%?!!! aint gtx 1080 supposed to go up to 120%?

as u can see its maxxed at 8+ only !! and I confirmed this by playing shadow of mordor at 4k vsync off and as per gpuz max TDP was indeed at 109%

Because that card has a higher default power target out of the box. 108% on your card is the same as 120% on the reference.

That card is still only a single 8 Pin card so it's not going to let you go above that without a BIOS mod.

The poster is correct. Nothing to worry about. The G1 has a 8+2 power phase design, which is a decent improvement over the reference.

How do you like your new card? Any coil whine?

Already point this out in the 1080 review thread but, 120% on FE =/= 108% on the G1.

They did the same thing with the 970 G1, and most likely the 980/980ti (I just never checked). The 970 G1 had a max % PL of 112% which ended up being 280w, meanwhile a 970 STRIX had a %PL of 120% yet default wattage limit in the bios was 196w.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

If i were to hazard a guess, the bios probably allows for somewhere in the 250-280w limit @ 108%.

Well it seems a little weird that he is hitting the power limit @ only +100Mhz core and +400Mem.
Do you have a kill-a-watt and a spare PSU?
OP, can we have an AB screenshot of the card hitting the PL? I just find it a little hard to believe Gigabyte would so stingy with the PL this time around.

Yes, G1 1080 reaches up to 300w, actually.

Up to 300 watt?/ hitting the power limit without increasing voltage and only + 100 Mhz core and 400 Mhz mem seems a little silly to me.

You need to get GPUz open to the sensors tab, and see if the card is power limit throttling. It'll show green in the PerfCap Reason Line. If it is, you'll need to bios mod to get around it.
