Heatsink stays cool while running IntelBurnTest

Thread Starter
My Noctua U12P heatsink stays cool to the touch even after 15 minutes of IntelBurnTest (with only 1 fan mounted!!!). i5-3570K core temps are between 60-70C then. (Idle: 28-40C). The heatpipes of my idling GTX 970 are warmer!!! Is the Noctua just that good at absorbing heat, or is there something wrong with the thermal paste? I'm actually fine with these temps, but I'm curious, is a cpu fan even needed when the heatsink remains at room temperature at full load?

Your CPU temps seem to be absolutely fine, especially since it's IBT.
I wouldn't worry too much if I were you, everything seems to be working great thumb.gif

The heatsink is probably a couple 3 degrees above room temp. These coolers never get 'hot' because of the way heatpipes work and the fact that in normal low load use the CPU is only about 40c (104f), and that is only at the CPU and IHS. The liquid in heatpipe boils an is pushed toward ends of heatpipe by more boiling at center. As it cools on it's way toward ends of pipes it condenses into the wick on inside of the heatpipe and is drawn back to base. This means by the time it reaches the surface of heatpipe it is already much cooler than CPU is, and continues to cool even more on it's way back to cooler base.
