[PcPer] GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 3-Way and 4-Way SLI will not be enabled for games - Page 11

headscratch.gif...I'm still wondering whether there really is a 'design-flaw' by NVidia engineers with this issue. If that's true (instead of 'marketing-related' for the full Pascal dye), that's kind of inexcusable

Also, my first quad-SLI build was based on 4x 670s...initially, it was not supposed to be possible to have more than 3x SLI w/ 670s, though a driver and registry mod w/ notepad fixed that smile.gif - and shortly thereafter, NVIdia's drivers officially enabled quad-SLI on 670s anyhow. I think initially, the thinking @ NVidia was that 670s were already too close to 680 performance (which they were biggrin.gif)

Finally, I hope some of you folks can help me / us out....may be a year or so before Windows 10 launched, there was an article (linked via OCN if I'm not mistaken) that suggested that '''eventually''', Win 10 would enable a very different video / graphics model - one where VRAM was cumulative (so 3x 1080s would have a fully usable 24 GB of total VRAM).

In addition, it was supposedly going to be possible with this new Win 10 technology update to run both NVidia and AMD at the same time (I know that's possible even now in terms of physically being in the same machine, but I am referring to both adapter types working together at the same time).

Having not followed the PC market much due to work travel for about a year, I cannot locate that article about those potentially upcoming Win 10 features (which would obviously also help with 4x 1080s)...anybody has any links to this ?

2cents.gif Btw, IMO that would be something which could give a REAL boost to the PC market (not to mention Microsoft$) which is stagnant at best, what with smart phones, tablets and interactive TVs competing with PCs for the electronic dollar.

You might see a lot of 4-way SLI builds on these forums, but even here I'm certain less than 2 % of users have them. There are 467,985 members here, 2 % would be 9,360. I doubt there are that many users here running SLI, never mind 4-way SLI.

My bad then I am wrong redface.gif. I am sure as hell they are not over 9000, probably 100 or less (and that being generous). Not enough for Nvidia to really care about, and not enough to affect the purchasing decision for most people.

I'm in the process of doing benchmarks using 2-Way SLI GTX-1080 FE in 5K...

So no hope of running 4K Surround again. 5K w/ 2-Way SLI is not possible. Why on earth are they limiting what people can do. Such a ridiculous approach IMO.

On the bright side I guess I have two awesome paperweights! rolleyes.gif

For the dozens of people on the thread saying "3-4 GPUs is a waste anyway or doesn't scale good" probably hasn't had more than 2 GPU's in their life. I can tell you with 100% certainty to push 4K MINIMUM 60FPS with max settings you absolutely needed 4 Titan X's and an overclocked 5960x. Nothing ridiculous too like forced 8x or 16x MSAA more like 2-4x max. I had 4 way overlocked Evga AIO Titan X's and a 4.7Ghz 5960x now all sold. There are about a dozen modern titles that couldn't just quite get to that 60FPS even with 3 Titan X's which compelled me to buy a 4th.

The 1080's are a nice upgrade but it looks like 2 of them might not be quite enough to reach that 4K 60FPS minimum. It's looking like 3 at this point would do the trick. The good news is when the REAL high end Pascal GPU is released (1080ti or Titan P) then I'm fairly confident 2 of them will meet those minimums. This should last for a bit until the 120hz 4K monitors start coming out then I'd be wishing there was 4 way SLI again. At that point hopefully they'll already be a new generation of GPUs out before then.

I'm quite happy with my new Z170 setup. My computer is literally less than half the price as before and it'll run just as fast as before. Not having to buy 3-4 GPU's in the future or expensive "Enthusiast" chipsets to have 3-4 GPU's is a nice sigh of relief for my wallet in the future.

I thought so too, "well I bet the 1080ti/10Titan work just fine".

Personally I haven't used 4-way SLI since Fermi and 3-way since Kepler, so it doesn't directly affect me.

Call me old, but im quite satisfied with my 1440p 144hz setup. I've tried 4k, but wasn't all that into it. Not sure if it was the TN panel i was using or what, but i just feel like 1440p is all the further resolution should go for games (right now).

I have a 4k tv, and i think it looks great, but 4k for games i feel just isn't there yet. Maybe with higher texture resolutions in the future it might be better.

With my 1440p i find a single 1070, or 980 Ti (They both perform the same) adequate.

1440p is absolutely fine. I think if you're serious about these things, you have to try chasing pixels to see it for yourself. I went back to 1440p after a month or two of using the 4K Phillips VA panel. Witcher 3 looked glorious at 40" powered by two Titan X. But equally, the performance is not quite there yet, and that many pixels isn't necessary regardless. Decent 1440p panels are just as good, if not better currently depending on the games you play.

4K might be there with Volta. I don't even think it'd be there with big pascal. So it isn't going to be in the fore-front of my mind for another 2 years. I think i'm going to ride my gtx 980 ti's until then. Unless they come out with Crysis 24, and its the best game ever. Which i don't think will happen. Should be good with my 980 Ti on Overwatch etc until then.

Overwatch is very well optimised. Barely break a sweat on my GTX 1080 at 1440p / 60

I have 1440p 144hz, and a 980 Ti at 1400 Mhz, and i'm usually around 110 FPS. I don't have to be a solid 144 FPS. I'm not a competitive player like that. I just like an enjoyable experience which anything over 90 FPS qualifies as that. So hopefully i can pull something like that in BF1.
