It seemed pretty clear that he was referring to people playing at resolutions higher than 1600p.

Well, I've wanted to go back to 4K Surround since 5K Surround was never supported (running one 5K monitor is awesome w/ a 4K monitor as an accessory display biggrin.gif).

I really wanted to get 3x 4K Dell OLED 120Hz - even 4-Way SLI with the Pascal Titan would struggle but it would have been incredible. Now that 4-Way SLI is not supported, not only can I not do 4K Surround 120Hz OLED but they are gimping even 5K.

Further, 2-Way SLI cannot run 60FPS even in 4K on ALL games maxed out - I've done plenty of gaming/benchmarks to know this.

Here's Fallout 4 w/ a bunch of mods including ENB @ 5K with everything maxed out on 2x GTX-1080 FE @ 2050 / 5508:

l9bgdOz.jpg

Most of the time during gameplay, it's between 20 - 22 FPS which is horrendous. 4-Way SLI should have yielded north of 50FPS which is quite playable.

If it is between 20-22fps with 2gpus...how on earth would adding 2 more gpus give you 150% performance increase, especially when scaling usually declines when you add more cards

...after all is said and done though with this NVidia Pascal SLI++ situation, you should have no problem selling some of the GTX 1080s as most retailers still struggle to keep them in stock right now (and / or charge a premium at secondary outlets). Also, not to sound like a heretic, but what about a nice VR set ?

Wow, that's one heck of a Super Computer you have there!

About running 4K on all games maxed out, does your definition of "maxed out" include anti-aliasing as-well? I've noticed that some people consider max settings as highest graphical settings in the game without Anti-Aliasing, and other people include Anti-Aliasing as a part of it, even if that consists of something like 8x MSAA.

I presume you don't mean with that level of MSAA as that is sure to be an incredible resource consumer.

The potential loss of 3 and 4 way SLI for games is quite a big one, I've never run those kind of SLI setups and I don't think I intend to in the near future as the scaling above 2 cards isn't too great but I've seen setups with 3-4 GPUs do some impressive things.

I feel NVIDIA has been quite shady about 3 and 4 way SLI with Pascal, first the special key thing and now it's allegedly not enabled for games.

A lot of people have.... almost ruined the meaning of maxed out, IMO maxed should ONLY be every single single slider and setting cranked to the absolute highest it will go, even if your screen is 4k and AA makes no difference, if the game offers up to 24x MSAA then you should you crank it up to 24xMSAA otherwise you are not using max settings anymore.

I never trust it when anyone ever says maxed out because most people tend to leave something out, most often AA

That is true and Maxing out stuff these days is pointless to begin with. Most games AA is broken. Going from High to Ultra gets you next to no IQ improvement but tanks the fps. To me Resolution is the most important factor.
