[PcPer] GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 3-Way and 4-Way SLI will not be enabled for games - Page 3

They leave the functionality enabled for benches but not games because they don't want to be shown up in leaderboards. Just , lol nvidia...

I may actually switch to AMD GPUs this time around and just lose Gsync on my surround setup. This is just bad.

This is a big deal guys besides just lol @ Nvidia. This is going to affect 1200 watt+ PSU sales, X99 motherboard & CPU sales, EATX motherboard sales, tower case sales, ect. There's not a lot of reason to go X99 chipset versus Z170 unless you need 3 or 4 GPU's. The Z170 is all you need for 2 GPU's + an M2. Not many games out there that "needs" more than 4 cores and I can say that from experience coming from a 4.7Ghz 5960x I just sold and downgraded to a Z170 system.

Odd how they have handled this, it seems very strange. Its cryptic and you have to cobble together pieces of information in order to get the facts.

Does Nvidia even have working drivers for SLI 1080s? The review posted on Guru3d shows the current drivers are crap.

I agree, I was planning to change out my MB, CPU etc and now I will be moving to a Z170. No need to go X99 anymore.

To think I will have to go to the red team............ NFailDia thanks.mad.gif

My favorite configuration of all my systems was trisli 470's

No nostalgia factor anymore I guess if I were to consider green team again.

Though hopefully the market isn't too borked where I'm going since that's what really matters anyways

The assumption from some folks here is that this will automatically make 2way sli way better than before and if I were a betting man, I'd say that's not the case at all. This is based purely on the way sli has been handled or rather mishandled for the last few years.

Let's just go over some titles in no particular order. The division, Witcher 3, just cause 3, far cry 4 and primal, rise of the tomb raider, doom, AC syndicate, watch dogs, Arkham knight, quantum break, just a few of the titles that come to mind with either poor scaling or no sli support at all.

I'm not willing to give either nvidia or the game devs any benefit of the doubt going forward. Back pedaling along with over promising and under delivering has become the new normal in the game industry and it has to stop.

I hope I'm wrong on all counts and nvidia will establish this new 2 card standard that all developers will embrace, but for now, the chip is squarely on my shoulder.

I've lost the desire for 4 Way SLI now, like you i've done it several times over the years and it's just meh. Since ditching 2 of my Titan X's my system is just 200 fold better in terms of fluidity of gameplay and overall system quirkeness is gone.

Although i wish they'd fix the dog slow responsiveness of the NCP. It's bloody awful these days....

QFT there .. NCP is terribly awful .. if i want to waste 15 seconds of my life i just click on the SLI tab or 3d settings and watch it hang . Disabling and enabling SLI is soooo backwards too .. having to shut down apps etc before you can make the change. I'm sure Crimson does this much better these days (it could not be worse)...

What i will say about SLI though is there is an option now , vsync (smooth) which seems to work really nicely for me when SLI is supported. Its in the advanced settings.

Never done quad myself, done Tri a couple of times .. but yeah its no fun when 1 or 2 cards are not been utilized. Not liking this direction from NV with these cards, i mean they are the current top end.

I've been doing the math and assuming 45% - 50% faster performance than a 1080 for the rumored GP102 or Titan Y .. i think one of these on average one of these cards would be better than my two TXs on average .. seems to be always something i need SLI support on that doesn't have it or gets poor scaling. So yeah on average i think one Titan Y might be an upgrade option for me still.

After they made nvlink it's not a surprise. besides before 680 this GX104 chip never supported above 2 way sli iirc.

2 years later from now jhh will be " this is titan V 100x faster and supports upto 8 way sli*" drool.gif

* only on select mega jiga rampage extra extreme v20 elite killer edition motherboards with certified nv-link chipset. for only 3000 dorra

nv fan rejoice wheee.gif
