[PcPer] GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 3-Way and 4-Way SLI will not be enabled for games - Page 9

There's not a lot of reason to go X99 chipset versus Z170 unless you need 3 or 4 GPU's. The Z170 is all you need for 2 GPU's + an M2. Not many games out there that "needs" more than 4 cores and I can say that from experience coming from a 4.7Ghz 5960x I just sold and downgraded to a Z170 system.

How is any of that Nvidia problem?

It's a well known fact that greeting a three way SLI has no benefits. It's funny to see people still want to throw money for it even when Nvidia sas it's bad.

...just kidding...this is actually a 7x 980 Ti Strix 'render' machine NCIX special projects put together for a client and I helped a bit to set up (and mildly oc).

2cents.gif Apart from that, my own builds have included 4 quad-SLI builds over the recent years, and while some of the performance gains w/ 3 + 4 were marginal, they certainly were fun and I had few problems with the (few) games I play.

O my. drool.gif Just imagine the crunching power of all those GPUs. Though, I hope they have a good amount of radiators. Right now my Tis are cooking my loop from just BOINCing super hard atm.

Though I could care less about there being SLI or Crossfire. I usually only game with one card and the others be busy crunching. But I understand the peeps trying to push those crazy high res being pissed. You got to have that horsepower to drive those big screens for sure.

Which is the wrong term for old school fans

Quad SLI = two physical card solution. GTX 690 + GTX 690
4 Way SLI = four physical card solution. GTX 980 + GTX 980 + GTX 980 + GTX 980

I remember during the GK110 we would never get a dual GPU on a single card solution because of the power and thermal issues (even more so for AMD). But nVidia actually gave up the Titan Z. But you know it would have been far easier for them to make GTX 990 with two Maxwell GM204.

Also I miss the days of AIB specials. Asus was the last one to do something stupid and crazy like the Asus MARS GTX 760x2... miss crap like that.

EDIT GM204 not GM104.

GM 104 was never sold as GPU, GTX 980 use the GM204 Chip. MARS GTX 760x2 actually had decent performance but launched right into 780Ti rolleyes.gif

I accumulate (buy and sell) alot of GPU's and sometimes am lucky to have 3 or more fo the same GPU.

Nice limit on a mans hobby Nvidia !

it's ok.

when the 1000 dollar flagship comes out it will work fine.

and you can put that in your sig.

And yet people are still complaining about them not supporting more than 2-way SLI. Has anyone, ANYONE at all, seen 3 and 4-way SLI benchmarks? Has anyone noticed that 3 barely gave a performance benefit over two, and sometimes 4 saw less frames than both 3 AND 2? Why are people complaining about this? You get less performance for more money. The return diminishes almost completely when you buy a 3rd card, and goes the opposite way on the 4th. Don't get me started on how many games either don't play nice with multiple cards or simply don't run them at all.
Heck, at the peep with the four 1080s. You could always just use the two in SLI, and let the other two fold. biggrin.gif Then they won't be paperweights. Supposedly they get around Titan X PPD in F@H.
