Damn, i didn't know that. Well, it's still 4+1 (i am sure you made a typo thinking at the UD3P), but they must have nerfed it compared to previous revisions... So the only option for mATX is now the Asrock? Oh boy...

Like i said, from what people have reported in the forum, the Asrock with good case ventilation and with fan on VRM, can do 4Ghz. In a small case though, i would hesitate a lot to install it, because it's a marginal motherboard.

The best case would be for the OP to follow your original advice (the 8+2 phase UD3P) or in case he wants cheaper, the 4+1 D3P.

Otherwise, in a small case, i would also seriously consider FM2+, because i simply don't trust Asrocks in high heat enviroment. And in small cases, the motherboard is bound to suffer more than in a normal mid-tower.

I really don't know, it's the OP's decision.

Yeah the ud3p is great up to 4.4 GHz. My 8310 + 970a-ud3p will do 4.6 but over 4.4 after shutdown and you will get a oc fail message and restart into BIOS and change nothing and save and boot and will pass primw.

Yes, for its money, its overclockability is unquestionable. However, the BIOS bugs, like the oc fail message, have really gotten to my nervers. Sometimes, i wish it fried, so that i can force myself to put the Biostar TA970 Plus on. But the damn thing seems indestructible. Other times, i get an impulse to put the Biostar "here and now", but then i think "it will take you hours, format Windows, find new undervolted P-States etc). But, i really should give the Biostar a try. At times, i want to rip the UD3P off the PC. I still can't make the front USB3 to work as USB3, despite the fact that i even changed case. It powers, but doesn't recognize the flash drive as soon as you reboot. So i run my front USB3 ports as USB2 (with cable adapter).

I swear, if i manage to convince myself to put the Biostar on and it doesn't have weird bugs, next time, i will only buy ASUS and Biostar (for low/high mix). Gigabyte builds them well, but every time you have to mess with the BIOS, you want to cry.

sounds like a pretty good deal. As long as you dont want to do any serious overclocking.

For a cheap gaming PC the a10 is a nice chip
post #27 of 36
im not planning on gaming with it as i am not a gamer. i am simply looking for something that would be a rather large step up from my Athlon ii x2 regor. it has served me well i just wasnt planning on building a new machine now so i have to stay on budget. of about 100-150 TOPS. i just havent been in the field for a few years and am not up on the current CPUs. is there a significant difference between the A 8 and A10?

Not really just a couple hundred MHz and slightly improved igpu
post #29 of 36
So if money is tight it really isn't going to make a noticeable difference between the two? also other than having the number of points of connection for the devices I need a mobo isn't hugely different from another. is that correct?

for your stated usage there isn't much of a difference.
