I will put all this in a Case Labs SMA8 or similar
on a lot of the pics I have seen of the water-cooled rigs I cant see the optical drives so that fits with just don't put them in. thinking about it I don't really ever use it. when I do buy a new game in a store and take it home I have to connect and download anyway. so I will skip the optical drives as well .
I will overkill on the cooling as well I know but its a project. really want to know about hooking up pumps and fans to mobo etc?????
also do you use mobo software for temp monitoring or do you install more temp sensors etc....

thanks

hey, nice to see a fellow Washington guy! Tacoma here.... you?

personally, the term "overkill" always gripes me as its both something entirely subjective and then either way, ignorant when used in describing someone elses work. Only reason I mention this is to remove any potential barriers you may limit yourself with in your vision of what you want, because considering the hardware you have listed there, sounds like you dont have much holding you back in terms of what resources you have available! thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

any motherboard thats of even decent quality nowadays will have integrated temperature sensoring, as far as the CPU, chipset, and MOSFETS go, and getting something similar for your GPU is extremely EZ as well if its not already included with the one you decide to buy.

As for hooking up pumps, this also is relatively simple, but I feel as though you should perhaps take time to learn fundamental understanding of how watercooling in a PC works, the essential components required and whats your more important priorities in how you will utilize your loop before you move further (as in how important is looks vs performance, what components are most important for you to maximize cooling with, etc).

Once you do these things, then you can acquire what you need and proceed to installation, and the ins and outs of building your system.

feel free to PM me if you have any questions! I always enjoy discussion of plumbing and liquid cooling, especially with a newcomer and even moreso a local wink.gif

Hey Tacoma how are ya thanks for the reply. I have been looking at water-cooling for years I had bought almost all the stuff for a previous rig but in the end I thought "its to hard" ( spoken like jayz2cents). so I air cooled this time I that is not going to happen. I have a good understanding of the basics. the web has exploded with videos on this. so here I am

hey could I see some good close ups of pass through from top case through to bottom case? did you use a grommet ? why did you use a fitting screwed into the bottom? would love some detailed help on that

thanks

There is really no need for dual loops with this system, just start with a single loop, it will be easier to manage as you learn. You can use the mobo headers to hook up fans with splitters. Most mobo headers can handle 3-4 fans each, if you have more fans than you can manage with the amount of headers, then you will need a controller of some sort. Pumps are usually powered by molex/sata connectors, but PWM pumps have a connector for the mobo to monitor/adjust speed, just depends if a PWM pump is what you want. Temp sensors are nice to monitor water temp, but not necessary, the component temp itself is the most important. If you google search "SMA8 water cooling" you will get all the examples you could possibly want, also visit the caselabs owners club forum.

Mine is hidden on a shelf in a cabinet. smile.gif

I hooked it up once, installed OS, and never needed it since then.

I actually have one extra SATA cable plugged into the motherboard, and hidden behind the motherboard tray. Makes it convenient to quickly hook up an optical drive, HDD, etc. when I need to copy something.

I am going for about the same with regards to optical drives external. waiting on parts still the case is taking awhile they say on or before July 25th... so during the wait I am trying to figure out cable management by looking at rigs, not easy because nobody takes pics of it.

What fans and pumps will you be sung, are they PWM or voltage controlled?

For such a system I would probably go with an aquaero controller, but which one depends on you fans and pumps. They're pretty great and you can hook up all kinda of sensors and other accessories too, they're pretty much the best controllers you can get atm. thumb.gif
