Should I buy a Macbook Pro 13 or an ASUS Zenbook Pro?

Thread Starter
Hi!
I'm on the verge of buying a new laptop to replace my old ASUS one (K55 - VM), the hardware capabilities are still fine by me
if we consider my current laptop (i7 4/8, GT630m, 8 gigs of RAM) but I've had it for 4 years now and it is starting to wear out (and also I hate its 768p display).
So I've searched around and these are the two I've found which please my liking: the Zenbook Pro UX501 (i7 4/8, 8gigs of RAM, 256GB SSD, 15 inch FHD)
and the Macbook Pro 13 Retina i5 base model with 128gig SSD (because I could still afford it and I love its build quality, keyboard and display. also Mac OS X is pretty neat, too).
I'd mostly use my new laptop for light gaming (mostly DOTA2, HOTS, Hearthstone), watching videos, listening to music and programming (with the use of heavier IDEs like IntelliJ).
What would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
Keep in mind that I'm in no position to order a Razer laptop because it won't ship to my country (altough I find them nice), and I could buy the
Macbook Pro 13 cheaper than the cheapest XPS13 model that is more powerful than the Mac.

I've got the G501, which is the gaming companion to the UX501 (same frame and components, different colors). It's a wonderful machine, with build quality to rival the MBP. Gaming is great for a slim laptop, and the 960m will crush even the most expensive MBP. If you can find the G501 in your country, take a look at that as well.

The Zen book does everything you want +more storage while the Mac might not hold up with the igpu in certain games. The Asus laptop comes with a 4C/8T cpu vs the Mac's 2C/4T. You may need to turn down the settings a bit more with the Mac, but it should still work. It's a lot lighter too.

The zenbook is also complete crap. I have actually played around with one and it is incredibly flimsy.

The screen is also very meh. The best word to describe it is meh.

I would be waiting for the gigabyte areo 14.

Better battery life, better GPU and hopefully better build quality.

I would wait. AMD won contracts to supply the GPU in almost every new device this year and next: the Nintendo NX, Macbooks Pros, Sony Neo, Xbox Slim, Xbox One Plus.

Their new tech is a huge die shrink and is much more efficient. It's the first generational leap in mobile gpu's in a while now. It should offer twice the performance for the same price and run as cool.

As for the tech, depends on what you need. The Macbook costs more for the features but everything is more refined. The keyboard is perfect. The trackpad is perfect. It also retains its value much better than the Asus. I like Asus too but have regularly had annoying problems. I bought the macbook air competitor which had a beautiful 1080p ips screen. Unfortunately, they cheaped out on the SSD which made regular use a lot more stuttery than I would like.

For your usage, I think either would be fine, but wait for the Polaris GPU models.
