2600k @ 5ghz , upgrade or not for GTX1070? - Page 3

Keep that CPU until it or the mother board dies. No reason to upgrade. I can do 4.8 with my Ivy on air and that is rare and probably identical to you besides PCI-E 3.0. You likely won't get a better 1155 CPU then what you have now.

5ghz WHOA!!! Good job man, thumb.gif

What do you use your PC for? Is gaming the most CPU intensive thing you do?
Is it about status and numbers or performance?
Cause if all you do is game, then you wouldnt be buying a performance boost.
Dont waist your money on numbers.
great chip

also i think u'd do fine on 3440 x 1440 with a 1070

coming from someone who has a gtx 1070 watercooled and a 34'' acer x34 100hz monitor

You will be fine. BEYOND FINE!!!

I'm rockin a 6 year old system @ 2560x1440 60fps. and just one 780. granted everything is cr4anked balls to the wall. But the system handles it, with very even cpu usage. average around 45 fps if i turn all the eye candy up all the way. but in the middle somewhere, most games hover around 65-75.

Definitely fine! Got my 1080 over the weekend to go with my 2700k @ 4.9g and had no issues at all, so a 1070 will be fine for you.

Here are some of my test results:

GPU is watercooled and OC'ed to: 2139/11040, max temp was 52c and 21c room temperature.

The Division in-game benchmark @ 1080p/Max settings with all sliders @ max/No Ambient Occlusion/No Lens Flare/Neutral lighting:
Avg FPS = 107
Avg CPU Usage = 64%
Avg GPU Usage = 96%

BF4 @ 1080p/Ultra settings/4x MSAA/64 players, 60Hz, Operation Locker:
In-game FPS counter was at 180-200 maybe 90% (estimated) of the time, I noticed dips to ~160 a few times.

Project Cars @ 1440p DSR on 1080p Monitor/Max settings/3 laps on Sakitto Intl circuit with 19 AIs (weather was cloudy but no rain):
(using Afterburner's FPS counter)
Avg FPS was around ~90, with lowest I saw was 58 and only noticed it at the starting line.

Can't remember the exact R6 Siege benchmark results, but I tested it on different settings and settled with max settings, 2x MSAA and Ultra texture pack, minimum FPS was around 90-100, while average was ~144 (my monitor is 1080p 144hz, so I tend to aim for that if I can).

^ sounds good. Sandy was a great μ-arch. Kind of runs counter to the whole FX 8150 argument back in the day of "future proofing" when a purchaser of Sandy Bridge in 2011 would be set with top level performance for the next 5+ years! biggrin.gif I don't know of any other architecture that aged so well, that or Moore's law is totally dead and we are maxed out on silicon.

yep, I spent enough on updating it (GPUs, memory, ssd, monitor, custom loop) to easily upgrade the entire platform (maybe even x99?), but haven't felt I need to do it yet!

Exactly!
And things are just going to get worse with each generation sadly.
