[Eurogamer] Sony Confirms Playstation 4K - Page 6

two gpu's is too expensive no matter what for a console. any two gpu's that can be combined for a reasonable amount of $ will be worse than one decent one. that scalability stuff is for the PC market where you sell the GPU alone for $200 and up, and up and up....

Quite frankly, deal with it.

It's also not a precedent considering you buy new Graphics cards every cycle etc etc etc...It's the industry and it is what it is.

Console cycles don't exist anymore - It's time to accept that reality and move on.

Kind of crappy to say console cycles don't exist anymore. Last I checked, they did, until this very moment. Previous generations have gotten die shrinks and slim models that use less power. The only in-generation changes have been backwards compatibility and maybe different video outputs/inputs. There haven't really been any more powerful upgrades mid-stream. I understand why this has to happen now and I'm cool with it, but don't get on your high horse and think people aren't rightly pissed about this if they just bought a PS4 in the last 6 months or so.

the console cycle was already broken with the WiiU and heavily distorted by Sony and MS at various points anyway.

I think 399€/$ is a fair price, because it gets cheaper for Sony after time

My money is currently on 500 bucks. with PS4 being 300... ,

I had hoped PS4 would sell for 200 US dollars but I am guessing it is unlikely.

With a 980 Ti, the only reason you should touch a PS4 is for exclusives... so, yeah, dust machine. biggrin.gif

there's no way it would be $399 and profitable. even if it costs less to make than the old PS4 did Sony would charge a premium for the extra power.

Nintendo NX and Xbox Scorpio competition.

High price consoles are not worth it

We already know that Sony is releasing and upgraded PS4 because AMD made changes to their manufacturing processes of which accepting is more economically feasible than attempting to maintain the original PS4 parts manufacturing process. Sony isn't doing this to increase PS4 capabilities relative to product technological capabilities.

One compound word abolishes your entire theory.

Virtual-Reality.

Boom.

That is the only reality that matters since, that is where our industry as a whole is headed.

So...Out of touch with reality? Negative.

Sony chose to adapt to the market...That's it. Don't really care what your opinion is because every single article you can read right now on the subject agrees with my statements - Sony had to release a new console or they wouldn't be able to compete in the VR game because the current PS4 can't handle it.

GG.

I imagined that the console lifecycle may shorten, but given how long it seems to take the console game developers like Naughty Dog to master a new console, I didn't figure it to be that much of a change, even considering that everything is x86 now. People on this site are probably less than 1% of all console gamers. You think the average gamer out there speaks with developers? Your statement "It's not their problem and if you didn't have the foresight to see this coming...Honestly, that's on you.", is a bit condescending to the average gamer out there. I'm sure moms and dads will be happy and totally understand that their kid wants a new PS4K for Christmas when they just bought them a PS4 last Christmas or the one before.

Blame technology. Blame the market.

VR is fueling an entirely new facet of the gaming industry...Sony wants to be apart of that.

In order to be apart of that, they needed a new console.

That's really it...I mean, it's not complicated...Adapt to VR or, watch your console, die.

You nailed it. Everyone is going the VR route. Sony would be amiss to not jump on that train.

That's the PS3 job, since i think anything barely changed with PS4 and it does not support 4K UHD BD playback.

You mean like 3D back in the time? Well'see how it will end...with headsets starting from 500+ USD it won't be good. wink.gif

Major oversights on your part: few consumers are building machines capable of (PC)VR. Even fewer are adopting VR. On top of that, Sony's VR solution works with the existing PS4. So once again, consoles are market driven, not "available PC tech" driven. In addition, Sony's primary competitors (other consoles) haven't even announced VR capabilities (even though we can assume it's coming to compete).
