Whats the max temp for 1080s

Thread Starter
Have a msi gaming x. Tried the heavensward benchmark (mine is from sept 2015)

max of 80c/74% fan at 1440p.
1900s for the core clock

Is that a safe temp? Ill be adding a pci cooler to try and give it more air as my case has no airflow really. Passive only and exhaust at top

Thats a generally fine overall temp. the 1080 begins throttling at 85c and will downclock until it can hold at 85c without raising. some better airflow would aid it for sure but as it is it is just fine.

Hey, you must have a bad airflow in your case.

There is no way my Gaming X reaches 80C. I have fans on auto and it reaches 74C max with 2050mhz OC. The fans spin around 1300rpm which is inaudible. With your fan setting I am able to keep it below 70 in heavy load.

I have 3 intake and 2 outtake fans if that helps, which spin at <500rpm when gaming.

Yup but I tried an actual game that's not too demanding at 1440p/max settings and maxed at 68C.

Guess bad airflow only counts when the game is super demanding. I love how the fans don't spin unless I'm gaming

Must be your case not getting the heat out..
I have a hybrid Titan X runs at 60oc in the summer and 1480mhz max volts
But the hybrid radiator pushes air right out the case

Well he has passive cooling and exhaust out the top. what case do you have? if you can add fans to move the air that would help substantially but im assuming it is a type of mini itx or htpc case and your super limited on options.

I can add pci cooling.

Case is Lian-Li Pc-o7s.

Ahh. i love the look of that case. i want to build in that case some day lol. maybe when i win the lotto ( in my dreams ) but a pci fan wouldnt help much unless you find one that takes air from outside the back/side and pulls it inside, but i havent seen any of those. i say just make sure the 3 fans up top ( assuming you have them there lol ) are running decently once you game, that will help out a good bit with temps. aside from that there isnt much you can do but 80c really isnt horrid, and if you wanted you can make your own fan profile to ramp the fan up higher to keep it cooler when gaming and off when your not.
