[chiphell] RX480 in disguise ? (Update) - Page 15

This seems like a lot of work and like some wierd NDA rules that can be avoided that easy. If it is true however it more likely seems that the 1080 Mhz is intended for the 4GB version and they are using chips for the 4GB that do not clock too well and keeping better chips for 8GB versions ? either that or the card is at 1266 Mhz when the software shows 1080 as it is somehow reading a wrong multiplier or something and trying to clock it to 1266 in fact can be clocking it + 186mhz effectively clocking the 1266 to something like 1500 (considering a wrong multiplier or something in those lines) thus giving the 70 degrees result even with the lightning cooling

As it would be expected to get low temperatures with this 3 fan blower thing ?

Or the Lightning cooler doesn't rly fit properly the way it is suposed to and thus providing us with bad temperature results.

Either way we should await for those benchmarks the guys saying they haven't signed NDA or at least till E3 in order to get bettr judgement on this card.

The Lightning's cooler doesn't take an additional power connector, you technically don't even need to plug the extra 6 pin in on the 290x Lightning.

The 1080 Mhz seems to be one of the random clockspeeds that people were sent, another one being 1267 Mhz. Possibly another NDA identifier.

The Lightning cooler would hang over the edge of the 480 since the PCB is so short. I don't even think we know if he ran the card with that cooler on it.

Clocks are saved in BIOS, so there is no such thing as NDA trap. 4GB and 1080 MHz are exactly the same specs as 290X Lightning.
My theory is that he just took the TriFrozr cooler off and attached it to reference 290X PCB to take the picture.
Getwinder is a known guy at CHH, but this 'leak' does not look plausible to me.

Oh, yes there are. AMD has done that in the past. They send out final BIOS just before NDA is taken off.

The reference 290X PCB edge is a different color. and card appears to be too short compared to the MSI Lightning cooler based on where the power connectors sit.

There's also the question how he filmed himself installing the drivers and immediately opened up Crimson to show it being 67DF:C7. For him to fake it, he would need to go change it after a driver install.

We don't know about custom boards and the VRM layouts so it may have bigger PCB's.

I assume "Guidance Edition" means the reference BIOS.

Leftmost picture is original with jpg compression.
Two in the middle are real for comparison.
Rightmost is original in PNG, where it's the most obvious that this is shopped.

Just did I too.
I downloaded the png file from flickr and blew it up.

You can see the background of the "3" is whiter.

Yeah, just editing the brightness and contrast makes it really obvious. Pretty terrible shop, couldn't even be bothered to match the background color.
