[chiphell] RX480 in disguise ? (Update) - Page 22

for clarification :

Is it the 1080mhz RX 480 that is faster than the GTX 980 ?

Or is it the 1266 mhz RX 480 that is faster than the GTX 980 ? maybe OC'd RX 480 ?

I'm not saying it will beat the 1080, but I have a hunch about what AMD is pulling with clock speeds.

The 300$ GPU could be a heavily overclocked RX 480 that could give a 1070 a good fight.
If calculations are correct and the RX 480 is only using 90W or so, there's still tons of headroom until we reach 1070 levels of power draw.

Last I time I checked MSI didn't allow RMAs for the broken fans. I know what brand of card I'm not getting next.

At 1080 clock it's slightly above 980. At 1266 clock it's nipping at the heels of Fury.

The RX 480 is also the "cut down" (2304 shaders) P10 isn't it ?

There could be a slightly higher clocked 2560 shader RX 480X that is an additional 10-15% faster?

That's the rumor but it has 0 confirmation from anywhere iirc.

Fury(X), R9 390(X), R9 290(X) etc. all have low clock speeds compared to Maxwell too.

AMD cards, atleast as of late, scale really well with higher clocks though. Going from 1000 to 1100 mhz is basically a 10% increase in performance, but 100mhz on a Pascal card is way less than 10%.
