I made a typo.

Ah.

Either way, if polaris could hit close to pascal levels, i could see the highest end 480s using an 8+6 pin. same reason that there are 1070s with 8+6 pin, more power then they could ever use unless under water/LN2

I bought the ASUS freesync monitor recently and sold my 390. I was prepared to go with either a 1070 and no freesync or a 480 and freesync. I would never pay the gsync premium tax, it just feels wrong.

I would return it and wait for the next good sale on a 1440p freesync monitor. They've been around $400 multiple times the past month and refurbs around $300. When you are getting a card that can handle 1440p you have to factor in the price of the monitor.

1070+freesync monitor = ~$800 (factor in vsync to performance in games as well)
1070+gsync monitor = ~$950
RX 480+freesync= ~$650

To me by far the best bang for the buck is the last option. If the 490/vega is a big jump I'd sell my 480 and move up to that when the time comes as well. The 1070 would have to destroy the 480 performance wise for me to give up freesync at this point so it looks like i'm committed to AMD for the foreseeable future.

If this is the same chip, you can easy put the slide to 1200+ core clock.
What slide are you talking about? Is there any overclocking tool that can overclock Polaris card already?

We've seen bios edited systems used to post fake leak videos in the past. No reason to set expectations higher than half TDP 390 for $200 and see if we are pleasantly surprised.
