Chips do degrade overtime and will require slightly more voltage to keep stable.

How could I test to narrow down to which component could be damaged?
I would first drop everything to stock and do what you were doing before when it restarted and see if it still does it.
If it continues to restart I would run memtest, if that checks out fine, it could possibly be your power supply depending on age.

I had my waterrcooled setup restart on me playing FFIX a few hours. Normal temps, above average water exaust temp out of the GPU (35-41c). CPU temps 38-52c. What I realized was the power supply was failing on me. Swapped Power supply and I'm good. I do get occasional restarts, but it's very rare now. usually downclock from 4.2ghz to stock or 4.0ghz just enough to no restart again. So I'm guessing it's the motherboard VRM they are hitting that 50+ Celsius. You can log voltage, cpu temps, gpu and vrm etc.. .with OCCT and it can take logs or screenshot of your stats every x seconds or minutes. Very good for troubleshooting. Esp. when your +12 volt rail is like 11.58v instead of 12.1v or 11.8v etc..

Yup, had a suspicion it was my PSU.

No problems on memtest and OCCT CPU stress, crashed after some time on Firestrike and immedieatly crashed once I clicked the start button on the OCCT PSU test :/

(I was on default clocks for the CPU and GPU)
