Even 1.4GHz seems low for this node, if Pascal is any indication.
AMD must be going with a radically different design for their 14nm chips. You'd think a high density chip with a small die footprint would be producing worse yields but the price-point insists otherwise. Temperatures and clocks would be reduced from a high density design, surely.
If the information we've gotten so far is correct, this one might be a lot of fun under water. If those overclocking results are true the scaling from overclocking is considerably better than NV as is typical for AMD. Hopefully we won't see dismal overclocking headroom like we did on 28nm. The lack of headroom does seem to be typical of GCN, too. I guess time will tell.
Big Pascal will surely scale better with overclocking, like we've seen with NV's past big die releases.
All in all, the GPU scene definitely feels exciting again. This'll be fun.
