You can either design for speed mhz and then loose ipc which pascal does vs maxwell.
or design with better ipc and then subside lower clocks.

smart people dont buy 1070/1080 due to,
cant render snow in dx12 properly cast a shadow of its capabilities
fan issues cast a shadow of the tech and look like cheap manufacturing
and worse ipc than Maxwel is a design flaw
and then knowing all that you pay extra tax for it and with cheap parts for the 1070 I wonder if the card burns up with a driver.

On the other hand a 480 looks in any way whatever its performance as the best card in 15 years in the graphics arena.
Thats what has all the people excited.

Not the extra 100$ Nvidia special tax you pay for other brands. thumb.gif

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1070/20.html 41,5 - 43,2 fps on a 390X/980 (rough equivalents of 480)

but, naturally, it depends on what you play and how you play it

I personally wouldnt move to 1440p without a card that can get at least consistent 60 avg fps on at least current flagship titles (maxed out with little to no AA)

PC gaming to me is that premium experience and not compromise

lol you pick one game W3, the world doesn't revolve around that title.

Every other game in that review shows the 390X/980 enough for 1440p.

I meant high frames, either with a 480 at 1080p or with a better card at 1440p
