If Microsoft paid AMD huge amounts of money for this exclusivity I can see AMD shares raising the following weeks, otherwise it would be foolish to not release such an incredible card this June 29th.

Not sure why MS would need to do that since they are getting custom parts anyways. It is just matter of performance targets each console company sets. Xbox One was struggling to compete against PS4 with inferior hardware so MS just decided to set a higher target this time with Scorpio. Simple as that.

yeah I think MS overreacted a little and are butthurt that PS4 beat the Xbone specs wise and since M$ is made of money they just went all out with "muh TFlops" now

also this gives them the title of "first 4K gaming console" because the 4+ TFlops Neo sure as hell wont run any native 4K ... but I think theyre ahead of themselves, the Scorpion will still struggle majorly with 4K

Sony never intended to go that high for Neo, they are likely saving 4K gaming for PS5 which IMO is the better move

not to mention Neo will likely cost less than Scorpio

4K@30fps isn't that demanding if you run games at medium settings.

What's stopping AMD from releasing this chip which would stomp on current RX 480s for 279-319$$ to the PC market if not an exclusivity contract?

Also what are they even using for the Xbox APU, Enhanced Jaguar or Zen?

Thoughts?

Or Scorpio uses Vega, which will have been out for almost a year by the time it releases, or Scorpio uses a custom 40+CU iGP in an APU, and is only related to Polaris and Vega by architecture.

I think VEGA isn't remotely ready for mass production, might as well be in the same stages of Polaris back in December. The Xscorpio probably have the biggest chip of the Polaris Line Up, with beefed up CUs mixed into AMD's new APUs.

Also Vega is made for high performance segments, consoles are more compatible with the ideals of Polaris.

What the...so the £160 price for a 4gb 480 is bull? There's no way they will charge £160 if the 8gb version is £240 surely.

On a serious note wading through the dirt being chucked around in here. What sort of firestrike score would be needed to say run games at 1440p max setting but with no AA?

I'm trying to decide what gpu to buy for a 1440p build that doesn't need AA on.

Thanks

Edit: Upon closer inspection the 480 numbers on the supposed leaked benchmark don't look right. The 480 OC score looks completely photoshopped if you zoom in on it. The sequence of numbers representing the score don't look aligned to other scores, I.e space between digits etc.

So I'd call the 480 Oc result almost certainly fake. Which is a shame
