Who here still uses optical drives? - Page 3

I'm "optical free" since 2010, except my Blu Ray player in the living room of course.

I might need an optical drive in my gaming computer at some point, when Shenmue 3 appears biggrin.gif

I still have an external blu ray drive for my pc since I still buy Blu rays
post #23 of 62
I have one that is only used to rip CDs. Had to do a fresh install of W10 and have a DVD with it on there. Of course the install would fail at 53%, so the disc must be damaged. Went the USB stick route and it worked flawlessly.
I never use them but I always make sure my build has one. I don't want to be stuck with a disk that I can't read.

I still have a DVD-RW drive that I use for occasionally watching an old DVD or for archival purposes, but it doesn't get used very often. I'll always keep one around, just as I keep a USB floppy around just because you never know when you might need it.

Same here but did you notice, most manufacturers now have dropped even providing space on their cases to install any Optical Drives.

Really difficult in choosing any new cases that have any available, optical drive space sad-smiley-002.gif .

There are plenty of cases available that have a 5.25" bay for an optical drive. I bought one last week and installed an optical in it.

Fractal still do on majority of their cases.

I always like to have one in my system. I have a lot of legacy software, and pretty much anything pre 2010 that I have is on a disc. I would still prefer disc's to downloads honestly.

I have 2 in my system right now actually, both Blu Ray reader/burners. Sometimes I do back ups with blu ray too.

Even though theyre being phased out I'll probably always use one. I still have a floppy drive too.
