i was pusing nearly 200fps with gtx 660 and 6 core x58 xeon on 1080p. rx 460 will be way more powerfull for those kind of games soo... + its cheap. hundreds of systems ready with elcheapo card is damn good thing for massive events right?
OK, I'm schooled then, thanks all. Obviously I neither watch eSports, nor play the games, so I didn't really get the marketing angle for it.

I'll stick to massive open worlds. biggrin.gif

Well ive abandoned league. Playing wot only with friends tongue.gif was never fan of esports but still, those that organize those kind of events are now in better situation. It will be easier for them to provide better systems because cost my be lowered or they can bring higher res screens smile.gif

oh and im waiting for swtor to bring some new endgame content ;D

tpu is either playing with specs by guessing them, or they are doing some unspoken leaks wink.gif

Is there a limit to how much your GPU can cost?
Do they require that you run your PC off a battery?
Do you get extra money for winning under 60 frames per second?
Do fast GPUs not work with DX9 games?

Seriously. Why would "e-sports" be the lowest possible denominator in any GPU lineup? I would think you'd want the fastest possible rig.

Or is it, "the systems are provided by cheap hosting organizations, several hundred systems for a single event". Probably that, huh? It's not BYO like a LAN party, is it?

they target cafes, not all cafes can afford to splurge $200+ for GPUs per rig.
if they had 40+ machines then they'd be looking at a $8000+ for a GPU upgrade.

cafes like these usually have builds with the lowest investment cost in mind, things like i3+GTX750 is their first choice, i5s hardly ever is an option.
even worse, some of the stingy ones even goes for the cheaper A8 APUs so they could skip the GPU entirely, this means they're even slower than an i3+GTX750.

ROPs on the 460 seem kind of anemic (a bit less than half the SPs of P10, but a quarter the ROPs?); I guess it doesn't need much, but I really would have expected 32. Also, that those pages still use the old codenames and "GCN 1.3" is kind of weird.

Partly the last one, and combined with the fact you can cram something like a RX 460 into just about any OEM computer you can find at best-buy.

Dunno if you noticed, but people who play things like League and GO usually have trash rigs, playing on some $300 HP pre-made. That's the "e-sports" target, because all the big e-sports games can run on a microwave. There aren't enough of us OCNers to keep Valve's server full, so they can't ramp the graphics. I pull 300FPS (max cap) in GO all day long, and 250-450FPS in LoL depending on if i'm in a team fight (both at 1440 and obviously maxed out), and my Furies are sleeping the entire time. Sometimes they play the game at idle clocks, no joke. They don't need something that big. tongue.gif

Very few people who play e-sports games do so for money. Those that do are usually sponsored teams who play with what they are given.

No big deal, just remember that all those jokes about the LoL player playing at 20fps and his team yelling at him to get a GPU? Those aren't jokes. They're stories. A $80 GPU that can do several hundred FPS is just the ticket. thumb.gif

I think 470 will have less SP then that. Reason is because its only slightly faster then 380X which is 2048 SP card. The difference is 470 will have higher clocks. I am expecting 1792 SP or even 1536 SP.
