Could 1266MHz be the boost clock? Sure. Could it be something else? Yep. Just go enjoy your 1080's and stop worrying about Polaris. Like you said, they "are the bestest cards ever made ever" so I'm not really sure why you are spending so much time in here trying to run down a product that is going to be selling for less than a third of the 1080? Oh wait, the trolling, that's right... rolleyes.gif

This is the same guy that took severe issues with "butthurt 980 Ti owners spamming 1080 threads". Well look what he's doing in AMD threads. And we're supposed to be the hypocrites. rolleyes.gif

I mean at least we butthurt 980 Ti owners have a reason to QQ and bawwww in those 1080 threads. But there's literally no (good) reason why a 1080 owner should be spamming Polaris threads.

How do you know they have enough Polaris chips to put into their mobile products? You don't, nobody does except AMD.

For all we know Polaris 480 cards etc may be in very low stocks upon release.

Not everyone will be happy with AMD's marketing plan with Polaris, your opinion based on assumption and imaginary facts means nothing.

Just leave it to the professionals at AMD to release their products how they see fit, as they know exactly what is going on with the production of their hardware.

Things are like this, when it comes to Nvidia he is very optimistic and positive saying even that we are going to see 1070m, 1080 or the nowhere to be seen 1060m before any AMD mobile Polaris.
The is a bit strange taking in consideration that Nvidia clearly has stock problems with Pascal GPUs and it's not just the 1080 that uses GDDR5X.
Also the 1070m and 1080m were rumored to be the Full Desktop GPUs so they will go in big, expensive laptops which I personally find useless, I would rather buy a Desktop PC in this case. In the end the 1080m and 1070m will satisfy a very niche market.

I'm not very convinced Polaris GPUs will have stock problems at launch although probably first batches will sell very quick.
The thing is Polaris 10 and 11 are mainstream respectively low end GPUs so high demand is a given and I'm sure AMD prepared themselves for this situation.
Also it's not crazy to assume that Polaris 10 and 11 mobile are already available for laptop OEMs but AMD hasn't announced it.
I think that after 29 this month we are going to see a lot of leaks regarding mobile Polaris.

Not to mention he is not listed in the 1080 owners club at all.

Last I read he was looking at the 1070, so in a (very sad) way he has every incentive to hope that the 480 flops, because he's obviously going to buy green regardless of the facts laid out before him.

I would've though a successful 480 (980 performance with potential to OC to fury/980ti levels) might force Nvidia to lower the price of the 1070? Isn't that a good thing for everyone?

At this point I have Chev marked as a troll as he usually comes to AMD threads with the sole purpose of inciting AMD v Nvidia flame wars rather than contributing anything meaningful to the discussion. Then again, it's getting pretty hard to tell the difference between trolls and Nvidia drones.

When are we expecting proper reviews?
Two weeks ago when my older bro went to both AMD events, people said the 480 was 970 perf, I debunked that BS, then they said the 480 was inbetween 390x/980 perf, i debunked that too, now people are calling what i say as "hypetrain" yet I haven't been wrong yet, although while others been wrong over and over before. You can mock me, copy screenshots of me, what ever, but I have yet to be proved wrong about the 480. I admit a great deal of my info comes from my older brother that is in the industry but who cares? At least I give "real" estimates that come to fruition. I want to point out though that the 480 is only capable of this when overclocked but they OC like a dream, especially the 6+8 pin shock & awe models.

The gpu core speed is not that much faster than previous gen cards. Nvidia meanwhile really boosted speeds to over 2 ghz on their new 10xx line. I know these are new architectures with different thermal enevelops but it is an intriguing question.

This may be an amazing card if it overclocks well. I for one, hope that RX 480's work with my Kraken cooler.
Nvidia sacrificed IPC to achieve high clocks compared to Maxwell. They went for higher clock instead of better IPC, sou you have to clock them high to compensate the loss. Which as usual will show up as the cards being able to do high fps at low resolutions but then start dropping down fast as resolution scales up. So while AMD cards may not do those insane useless numbers of fps at 900p due to overall lower clocks and higher IPC, they lose much less performance as resolution scales up.

Clock alone isn't everything, it's how much processing you can do at that clock.

One can see that with all amd cards how they scale good and also keep increasing speed over time.
Most use cards 2-3 years and knowing their card becomes better and better is a good darn thing.
470 for 1080p
480 for 1440p
sums it up for me. thumb.gif
Its why amd 400 series owns everything below the 1080 wink.gif
Vega later for 4k and up.

If the 480 OC to 1500mhz that will be interesting at least biggrin.gif
