Well im kinda not liking how boinc control cpu usage.

Is their anyways to set core count?

Or to run it in a virtualbox windows 10 with like the number of core i want to give it.

Im having issue with my 2 rigs with h110i gtx.... Cpu temperature dance like hell from 50 to 25 and up and down on the i7 and the fx well it would do the samething for sure when im going run it.

I just want to be able to set 2-3-4 core at 100% So a vm is a good thing since i can set how much core i want it to run. But im not sure if performance will be ways worse?

Thank you

I use Process Lasso to permanently fix an exe to certain CPU cores. It will persist if they all close/open so once tasks complete and start it will stay where you put them. That can end up forcing 4 tasks on less than 3 cores if you don't reduce the % of CPU cores used in the Boinc Manager.

I don't care for the % CPU in the boinc manager either. I've set it to 90% and it will just run at 100% then dip way low for awhile instead of 90% all the time. I just set how many cores and then which cores with the program Process Lasso.

Have you used the Manager to set maximum usage.  In Options -> Computing Preferences ->  Enter in the maximum % of the CPU you want BOINC to use.   BOINC considers threads cores if you have hyper threading enabled, so on your 4790k, 50% would be 4 tasks.

If that doesn't seem to work for you, and you are only running one project, then you can set a max number of tasks to run for that project.  You can do that with an app_config.xml file that you place in the project's data folder.  On a standard Windows install the project folders are located at C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects   BOINC Client Configuration (scroll to the bottom for info on app_config.xml)

Example app_config.xml to limit a project to 6 tasks.

<app_config>
    <project_max_concurrent>6</project_max_concurrent>

</app_config>

Personally I set CPU usage to 100% and then use the project_max_concurrent to adjust how many cores are used.  This will also work for running multiple projects, you just have to add the app_config file to each project folder and divvy up your cores accordingly.

great thank you all.

Did not know that core usage thing was the thread number.

Was thinking of multi cpu server setup.
