On a low budget, are these parts decent? - Page 2

I will agree with the above. You will want to OC it for max performance. I ran the 8350 I had at 4.8 to get performance I was ok with.

Since your budget is limited, maybe you can find a quality used board in the classifieds on here.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1590004/asus-sabertooth-fx990-r2-100-00-shipped-and-amd-fx9590-cpu-sold/0_20 sabretooth for $100. Its been up awhile, he will probably drop the price some more. That is one of the better 990FX boards IMO.

Ok, i just went to Newegg and saw this:

The Gigabyte UD3P is in offer, at 70$ or 60$ After rebate? i am not sure what price is the real one, we don't have rebates here. But if it's 60$ GET IT!!!! It's 8+2 phase.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128651&cm_re=Gigabyte_970_UD3P-_-13-128-651-_-Product

^ That's a very well built motherboard, with a horrible BIOS, but it should be able to overclock safely to 4.4Ghz. The 4Ghz are done like a walk in the park with this.

Your next best bet is the Asrock 970a G3.1 for 82$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157688

Basically, with the Biostar, you should be able to hit 4Ghz undervolted. But it will be struggling a bit. Those 2 above won't be struggling at all for 4Ghz and you are looking at 4.4Ghz, which will help more in games.

If you can spare 10-20$ more for motherboard, get the UD3P, it's worth the money over the Biostar.
If you can't spare the $, get the Biostar and follow my undervolting guide for 4Ghz, that i posted. Just make sure that you have good ventilation inside the case.

I would also get the 8300 vs the 6300. 2 more cores are starting to help even in games and are always better for general computing.

I personally would not get a FX 6300. I have one with a 7950 that my son games on and it does fine. But for a few dollars more you can get the FX 8300.

I have the following setup:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4wbGWZ
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4wbGWZ/by_merchant/

CPU: AMD FX-8300 3.3GHz 8-Core Processor ($114.50 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($61.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $176.48
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-15 13:48 EDT-0400

I have a FX 8310 + 970a-ud3p and runs 4.4 ghz 24/7, and will do 4.6 ghz stable but anything over 4.4 and the motherboard says oc fail, just enter bios and change nothing and save and boot and is stable (bios hiccup)

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the posts, I'll look into all of them. The only games I really play right now are overwatch, tera, modded minecraft and fallout 4 until I finish it. Might get Witcher 3 dlc later on. I'm getting the 8 core for sure, still deciding on a mobo but might go for the gigabyte.
