The kind you buy at walmart. Powerdvd might be able to do it, but i doubt it.

You need a UHD blu ray player. The current tech does not play UHD disks software alone is insufficient, Its a different physical technology required to read the disk.

Im not sure if the drives are available for PC yet.

Fair point mate. As far as I know it needs a different laser to read the content of the disc. Maybe the menus etc are not in the same format and thats why it can read it but cant actually play the movie....

AFAIK there's no software for PCs that can currently decode 4K Blu-ray discs

Ok so THAT I can understand intellectually but what the Hell? Really? Why isn't it the other way around? Shouldn't the computer have been first? Wouldn't a computer have been used in the R&D process?

100% false. There is no physical difference with the disc itself. Otherwise it wouldn't be called a bluray disc, it'd be called something else.

The problem lies in the software used to decode it. Thing is, bluray movies are copyrighted content and are encrypted. To decrypt and view the movies, the software used to view it needs to be licensed and allowed to decrypt these videos, which is why it is extremely hard to find free software to play back bluray movies from the disk. PowerDVD 16 is a licensed software to play back ultra HD movies on bluray disc, but it will set you back a whopping 90 bucks.

It's like this to deter pirating. If any tom, dick, or harry could just take an unencrypted video stream as it stands on the disc and view it with any player, then it doesn't prevent them form saving it and sharing it with other people. The content needs to be secure from the point of physically reading the disc to the output on your screen to ensure some process between that happening doesn't pick up the video/sound along the way, bypassing the copy protection.
