Oh you have extremely high asic die. Yeah, that for sure it is way more temp sensitive than the normal cards(high asic in general are hotter than 70-80%). With 1.28-1.3 volts you should hit 1300 mhz with good cooling

Doesn't high ASIC = leakier at higher volts, and thus overvolts worse than a card with lower ASIC?

At least that's how it worked for Kepler cards, which is why Kingpin cards were binned for low ASICs (<65%).

A high asic use less volts for the same overclock but it hits a voltage wall much earlier than an low asic one.

tldr It scales worse with more volts. But its great for air.

I had a GHz 7970 that did close to 1300 MHz on air benches.

It had no problem running 1200 MHz with a custom fan profile.

But then again, wasn't the GHz edition the B step of the chip?

Yeah that's what I thought. For WC you really want a card with as low of an ASIC as possible, unless it's got Maxwell-like scaling characteristics.

Nah it was the same chip just with more volts on stock to support the 1ghz.
