Cooler for i7 4790 k

Thread Starter
After researching i found H115i to be the best liquid cooler for this price range.
Right now i have it oced to 4.4ghz with around 1.17 core v.
Im still getting 100 degrees max.
I was aiming for 4.8 ghz with 80 degrees though

The cooler i have is evo 212 with 3 exhaust fans and 3 intake fans in nzxt phantom 410 case. ( no cages inside)

Maybe use H115i and use evo 212 cooler as well somehow? I dont know..
Somehow maximize H115i cooler? I heard about replacing the fans on those but not much performance diff.

Help me achieve my goal!

Something went wrong with your mounting if you hit 100c at 4.4Ghz with 1.17v core.
Been a while and finding what exactly rad size can actually fit without hitting the mobo.

I would start to look at Swiftech H220-X2/H240-X2 or EK predator.

I have re seated the cooler a year ago but the temp. Didnt change much.
Actic silver is what i used i think.

See, i searched around and with my set up, i shouldnt be getting this much temp max.
50% of ppl i ask say its normal and 50% say just like what you said.
I would like to believe that something is not right though..

Would it be solely a problem with my cooler or number settings?

I read that swiftech H 240 has more FPI than H115i.
Which means more air is needed to perform same as H115i.
Is there a reason you chose that over h115i? I dont think ill need gpu cooler in the future
post #4 of 14
Swiftech is only 13FPI and being copper. EK is 18FPI also being copper. H115i is 19fpi aluminum.
You need better fans at higher speeds to compensate for the bad rad on the H115i.
You can run fans at lower speed with lower SP on the Swiftech/EK as copper will dissipate heat much more efficient.

The 50% says it is normal do not know what they are saying.
What are you using to check the temps?
My system I can run 4.4Ghz with 1.27v (not so stable) and never go past 70c
I run 4.2Ghz at 1.18v with temps under extreme load of 65c.

How is the cooler and fan position?
Fan speed of 212 and is it stock fan?

Swiftech has lower fpi huh..
I use realtemp and hwmonitor. I should be getting similar to your temp! frown.gif so sad
What a useless junk i have that is suppose to be awesome

Two exhaust fans top
One exhaust fan rear.

Two intake fans front
1 intake fan bottom.

No cages inside.

I have evo 212 fan cooler that attaches to cpu. Not sure about the fan speed but this cooler also replaces stock fan.
Its only like $30 but everyone seem to like it for money.

Swiftech for a long time has used low FPI rads.
As for temps my C1 is higher performer than hyper 212. Also have to factor I have better direct airflow.

HWmonitor should temp you the fan speed of 212 that you plug into the CPU header.
If you are using the stock fan that comes with the cooler.

As for the cooler orientation is it front-back with fan pushing towards rear?
How much thermal paste did you use?

Check my post.

I guess ill try re applying thermal paste again:(

I see bottom fan set to exhaust?
Way you have it set up as you modded the case you should be good airflow and cooling.
Is your ambient temps high? Make sure the bracket is correctly seated in the center.
What is your CPU fan speed at?

H220-X2 might not fit correctly for clearance. Fans will be mounted on top of case.

Bottom is for intake.
Ambient temp is about 75 F.
Hmm i dont see the fan speed for cpu. Only gpu.
How is it exactly named?
75F or 23c is slightly warm. This will increase your temps.
The picture shows the bottom fan as exhaust.
In HWmonitor it should be listed as CPUFANIN (that is what my says)
